#7 TCNJ SWEEPS NJCU IN SEASON FINALE

Senior left fielder and right-handed pitcher TARA PERRUCCI (East Rutherford, NJ/Wallington) had a hit in each game for New Jersey City University, but #7 ranked The College of New Jersey won the 2010 New Jersey Athletic Conference regular season championship by sweeping an NJAC doubleheader from the Gothic Knights, 9-1 in five innings and 11-1, also in five, on May 1 at Lions' Park.
 
The Lions, ranked seventh nationally in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III poll, improve to 30-6 and 16-2 in the NJAC. NJCU's 30th season of softball ends at 14-26 (1-17 NJAC), losing its final 12 games after a 14-14 start. TCNJ leads the all-time series, 26-0.

******GAME 1: #7 THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY 9, NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY 1 (5 innings)******
In game one, TCNJ scored six runs in the first, two in the second and after NJCU got on the board with a fourth inning  run to cut the deficit to seven, the Lions tacked on one in the bottom of the inning to enforce the eight-run rule.
 
In defeat, Perrucci was 1-for-2 and junior outfielder/catcher ALEXANDRA DiIORIO (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) was 1-for-1 with a walk. Junior centerfielder STEPHANIE GOMEZ (South Plainfield, NJ/Belleville) scored the lone run in the fourth inning when she stole home.
 
The Lions reached the 30-win plateau on the season with the doubleheader sweep. In game one TCNJ had nine hits, led by senior shortstop Ellen Seavers (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood), who was 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs and her second homerun. Senior centerfielderDani Hagel (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Oakcrest) scored three runs and hit her third homerun of the season—going back-to-back with Seavers in the second inning. Junior first baseman/designated hitter Caitlyn Seamster (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) was 2-for-2 with a run and three RBIs. Junior rightfielder Colleen Cawley (Riverton, NJ/Holy Cross) was 2-for-3.

Senior Ashley Minervini (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) fired a two-hitter in picking up her 14th victory of the season (14-4). She fanned eight walked two and allowed one unearned run. Perrucci only allowed five earned runs with one strikeout and three walks, but took the loss (6-12).
******GAME 2: #7 THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY 11, NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY 1 (5 innings)******
In game two, TCNJ scored eight runs in the third inning and sophomore pitcher Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) collected her 16th win of the season for TCNJ against just one loss with nine strikeouts and two walks, allowing five hits.
 
NJCU's lone run came in the fourth inning as Perrucci walked and rookie right-handed pitcher ASHLEY O'BEIRNE (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Immaculate Conception) doubled to left center. Perrucci was 1-for-1 with one run and O'Beirne was 1-for-2 with the RBI while freshman third baseman REBECCA SATZ (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown)—a two-time NJAC Rookie Hitter of the Week—collected her 12th double of the season. O'Beirne took the loss (8-14), allowing five earned runs and eight hits with one strikeout and two walks. NJCU committed five errors behind her, including three in the eight-run third inning.
 
TCNJ was limited to eight hits with Seamster leading the way with two runs and one RBI in a 2-for-3 effort. Seavers was 1-for-2 with one runs and two RBIs. Sophomore leftfielder Crystal Lee (Dover, NJ/Morris Knolls) scored twice and freshman second baseman Ashley Sogluizzo (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.
