MADISON, NJ (www.NJCUGothicKnights.com)...
Junior forwards JULIA CASERES (Union, NJ/Union) and JENNIFER ALBUJA (Union City, NJ/Hoboken) each scored midway through the game to give New Jersey City University a 2-0 lead. But host FDU-Florham rallied to tie the game and force overtime, before winning on a corner kick with just 43 seconds remaining in the second sudden death period as the Devils outlasted NJCU, 3-2 in double overtime on the second day of the FDU Classic on Sunday afternoon. Each team had 24 shots in the game.

NJCU drops to 1-1 on the season and places third in the tournament. FDU (1-2) wins its first game of the year after losing a 3-2 double overtime game to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, and places second in the tournament. Stevens, 5-1 winners over Albright on Sunday, won the tournament with a 2-0 record.

NJCU junior keeper LAURA ROBINSON (Edison, NJ/Edison) made nine saves in 109:17 of action while FDU junior Lauren Albrecht (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) set aside 12 shots. NJCU had a 9-6 edge in corner kicks.

Caseres, who moved into a tie for seventh place in New Jersey Athletic Conference history with 132 career points, netted her 55th career goal and third of the year and was responsible for 11 of NJCU's 24 shots, including six on goal. It was her eighth game with double figures in shots in two seasons with the Gothic Knights.

Albuja extended her school career record by scoring her 58th career goal just 16 seconds into the second half off an assist from sophomore forward GABRIELLE CLARKE (Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens) and moved into 11th place in NJAC history with 125 career points.

Senior forward Lora Fink (Hamilton Square, NJ/Pennington Prep) scored twice for FDU off corner kicks, including the double overtime winner and senior forward Brittany Kanickij (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) scored the game-tying goal in the 70th minute.

“We still have work to do and this shows it, because we should not be giving away 2-0 leads or losing these games,” noted fifth-year head coach ROBERT BIELAN. “Our game plan resulted in [scoring] two goals. FDU, to their credit, didn't quit. They wanted it more.”

NJCU outshot FDU 10-8 in the first half and got on the board at 35:13. Caseres took possession of the ball, cut to the right and drove an unassisted shot into the left side of the net.

Just 16 seconds into the second period (45:16), junior midfielder KATLIN VARGO (Edison, NJ/Union Catholic) delivered a ball down the right wing to Clarke whose nice cross to Albuja set the striker up for a blast and a 2-0 lead.

But the Devils would rally. Fink scored off a corner kick at 57:05 to give the Devils life and Kanickij knotted the game at 2-2 with 20:28 left in regulation on an unassisted netter. Each team had several outstanding scoring chances throughout the final 20 minutes of the half, but Robinson and Albrecht each made key saves. Fink hit the post on a shot with 18:40 to go.

NJCU had both shots in the first overtime and each was stopped by Albrecht. Then at 109:17 of the second overtime, Fink, who had 10 shots (five on goal) including all three for the Devils in the second overtime, scored on a corner kick off a scramble in the box for the winner.

NJCU will make its 2010 home debut on Tuesday, September 7 at 4 p.m. when it hosts the College of Mount Saint Vincent at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field in Jersey City, NJ.
