GARCIA SCORES 15 IN LOSS TO ROWAN

senior guard CAROLINA GARCIA (Plainfield, NJ/Franklin) scored a game-high 15 points but the Gothic Knights dropped a 78-43 decision to Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Esby Gymnasium.
 
Rowan wins its fourth consecutive conference game, improving to 10-7 and 5-2 in the league. NJCU drops to 3-13 (0-7 NJAC). The Profs have won the last four meetings in a series it leads, 38-9.
 
Garcia played a full 40 minutes in a game for the 19th time in her career during her 87th game as a Gothic Knight and increased her 10th place career scoring total to 836, adding three assists.
 
Sophomore forward MAXINE KAMINSKI (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) and sophomore point guard NIDIA CARMONA (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) each had eight points and Carmona added five steals and five rebounds in 38 minutes. Sophomore forward DELIA CHERNEZ (Union City, NJ/Union City) totaled seven rebounds.
 
Rowan was led by junior guard Lauren Creel (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken), who matched Garcia with a career-high 15 points. Senior guard Gina Catanzariti (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Alissa Lamey (Northfield, NJ/Mainland Regional) chipped in with 11 points and dished eight assists.  Junior forward Brittany Baum (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) had nine points and eight rebounds while junior forward Lauren Gregg (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) grabbed 10 boards and tallied eight points.
 
Rowan jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first 2:08 of the contest and after a three by Carmona, chalked up the next 13 points to seize a 22-3 lead with 12:48 remaining and cruised to victory from there. Rowan led 40-16 at the half behind 12 points in the period from Creel. The Profs largest lead was 72-28 (44 points) with 5:27 remaining.
 
Rowan shot 45.5 percent overall (30-66). NJCU shot 15-of-66 overall (.227). The Profs outscored NJCU in the paint, 32-8, and had a 23-4 advantage in contributions from its reserves. Rowan's ball movement allowed its players to collect an assist on 22 of 30 made baskets.
 
NJCU next hosts York College (NY) in a non-conference game on Monday, January 24 at 6 p.m. at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center.
