#17 STEVENS BLANKS NJCU, 4-0

Stevens Institute of Technology, ranked No. 17 in Division III, scored four goals in the first half and limited New Jersey City University  to five shots on goal, as the Ducks defeated NJCU, 4-0, in a non-conference men's soccer game on Wednesday night at the DeBaun Complex.
 
Stevens (8-2), ranked 17th in the D3soccer.com Top 25 poll, wins its seventh game in a row while outshooting the Gothic Knights (3-6-1), 16-9. The Ducks scored on three of their first seven shots in the opening 22 minutes. The Ducks lead the all-time series, 10-4-1.
 
In defeat, NJCU junior midfielder GABRIEL AVANS (Roselle Park, NJ/Union Catholic) had four of his squad's nine shots and senior keeper MANNY LOJO (Clark, NJ/Union Catholic) stopped seven shots.
 
Senior defender Pete Bednarsky (Hackettstown, NJ/Gill Saint Bernards) had a goal and an assist and sophomore forward Stephen Dunbar (Johns Creek, GA) scored a pair of unassisted goals for the third and fourth tallies of the game. Junior forward Zach Adler (McKinney, TX) assisted on the first two goals of the contest. Junior forward Victor Daza (North Plainfield, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep) also scored once.
 
Sophomore keeper Paul Killian (Ellicott City, MD) made four saves in the first 45 minutes before senior Ethan Graham (Sutton, MA) preserved the Ducks' fourth shutout of the season with one second half save in 45 minutes of action.
 
NJCU's best scoring chance came early in the sixth minute when senior forward WALTER AVANS (Roselle Park, NJ/Union Catholic) had a 1-on-1 breakaway near the top of the box before Killian was able to break up the play.
 
The Ducks took a 1-0 lead at 8:20 of the first half as Adler's corner kick from the right endline was deposited inside the right post by Bednarsky for his first goal of the season.
 
At 14:30, Stevens extended the lead as Bednarsky lofted a pass from midfield to Adler down the left side, who slipped a one-touch pass to Daza in the goal mouth for his fourth goal of the season. The assist was Bednarsky's first while Adler picked up his fifth helper on the play.
 
Dunbar scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season in the 22nd and 41st minutes. At 21:37, he made a run on the left side before uncorking a shot that caromed into the net after glancing off the right post. Then at 40:40 Dunbar had a 1-on-1 shot blocked by Lojo, before he was able to connect on the rebound of his initial shot for a 4-0 lead.
 
After 17 combined first half shots, the two schools had limited opportunities in the second period when Stevens had a 6-2 edge in shots.
 
NJCU travels to Glassboro, NJ on Saturday, October 8 at 7 p.m. for a New Jersey Athletic Conference road contest against Rowan University.
