NEWBURGH, NY (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University
and Mount Saint Mary College played 94 minutes of scoreless soccer before the Blue Knights scored an odd goal midway through the first extra period as MSMC outlasted NJCU, 1-0, in a non-conference  women's soccer game on Thursday night at Kaplan Field.

MSMC improves to 10-2-1, winning its fourth straight game and leads the all-time series, 8-6-1. NJCU losses for the first time in four overtime games this season, and drops to 10-3 on the season. After a 9-0-0 start to the year, the Gothic Knights have dropped three of their last four games and been shutout in each decision.

NJCU had won five of its last six meetings against MSMC. The hosts held an 18-12 advantage in shots for the night, including 13-7 in the final 49 minutes of action.

The only goal came at 94:24 of the first overtime as freshman midfielder Vanessa DiSilvio (Massapequa, NY) made a short-angle cross in the box that became a shot when it banked in off of Gothic Knight rookie goalkeeper BRITTANY HOFFMAN (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) on a scramble near the goal. The winning tally was so unusual that neither side initially knew the ball had crossed the line. The unassisted game-winner was the second of the season for DiSilvio.

In defeat, Hoffman made eight saves for the Knights as 10 of MSMC's 18 shots were on goal. NJCU also had one team save. Blue Knight sophomore Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, NY) made five saves to preserve MSMC's eighth shutout victory of the season.

Senior striker JENNIFER ALBUJA (Union City, NJ/Hoboken) had five of NJCU's 12 shots, including two on goal while senior JULIA CASERES (Union, NJ/Union) added three shots (two on goal). Senior midfielder Erin McKeon (Watertown, CT) and sophomore forward Sara Sheehan (Wappingers Falls, NY) each had a team-high five shots and three on goal for the hosts.

NJCU will host York College (NY) in a non-conference home game on Saturday, October 8 at 2 p.m. in Jersey City, NJ.
