senior guard CAROLINA GARCIA (Plainfield, NJ/Franklin) scored 10 points on Senior Day 2011 to surpass 900 points for her career but Ramapo College moved within one win of qualifying for the New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament by posting a 60-41 win over the Gothic Knights in an NJAC North Division game on Saturday on “Coach Charlie Brown Court” at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center.

Ramapo (15-8, 5-6 NJAC) won its fourth in a row and improves to 5-1 in the NJAC North. NJCU falls to 5-18 (0-11 NJAC). Ramapo leads the all-time series, 31-26 and sweeps the season series in the rivalry for the first time since 2002-03.

Ramapo led by just six at halftime, 33-27, before outscoring the Knights in the second half, 27-14 by holding NJCU to 4-of-25 shooting in the second half (.160) and .255 for the game (14-55).

With Montclair State University's loss at Rutgers-Newark on February 12, Ramapo needs to defeat #23/24 ranked William Paterson University once in a two-game home and home series to clinch the final NJAC North playoff berth. If WPU wins both games, Ramapo can also qualify if NJCU can defeat Montclair State once in its two-game home and home series (February 14 in Jersey City; February 16 in Montclair) to conclude the season.

On Senior Day, Garcia scored 10 points and added four assists while playing a full 40 minutes in a game for the 22nd time in her career and the eighth time this season. She increased her career scoring total to 907 points and made her 75th and 76th career three-pointers.

Senior center Danielle Beam (Middletown, NJ/Middletown North) sparked the Roadrunners with a double-double of 16 points (8-14 FG) and 15 rebounds (10 defensive), adding four steals. Sophomore guard Alexa Ryan (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) poured in a game-best 19 points, making 4-of-8 from three-point distance and 7-of-15 overall. She also had a game-high six assists. Junior forward Lindsey Gripenburg (Bloomingdale, NJ/Butler) added eight points and two threes (2-5 3FG) with two assists and two steals.

Sophomore forward MAXINE KAMINSKI (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds (nine defensive)—one shy of her career high. Sophomore guard GABRIELLE RIVERA (Teaneck, NJ/Saint Joseph of the Palisades) tallied 10 points (5-13 FG) for NJCU. Sophomore point guard NIDIA CARMONA (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) had nine points (2-5 3FG) and three steals.

There were four first half ties, including 21-21 with 7:36 left on a basket by freshman forward MARIA SUAREZ (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park). With NJCU trailing by five, Suarez made it a one-point game with a jumper and two foul shots (4:22). Ryan and Beam made layups before Gripenburg hit a three for a 33-25 cushion. Suarez sent NJCU to the half trailing by six after a layup.

But Ramapo scored 15 of the first 18 points of the second half, opening a 48-30 lead when Ryan drilled a three with 10:49 remaining. Gripenburg's jumper at 17:28 had put the lead in double figures. Ramapo's defense prevented NJCU from having a chance to chip away at the lead despite the Roadrunners shooting 11-of-33 in the period (.333) before the visitors prevailed by 19.

NJCU plays its final home game of the season against Montclair State on Monday, February 14 at 6 p.m. Ramapo hosts William Paterson that night at 5:30 p.m.
