NJCU vs. ROWAN, NJAC TOURNAMENT HISTORY: NJCU and Rowan have a long history of men's basketball success. While NJCU owns the league record for conference titles, Rowan is second with 10 crowns. This will be the ninth time NJCU and Rowan have met in the conference tournament and the first time since the NJAC championship game on February 28, 2004; the Knights won 88-75. LAST MEETING: January 22, 2011 in Glassboro, NJ. Rowan won, 55-47, which was NJCU's only loss by more than four points prior to Wednesday's 62-53 setback at Montclair State. NJCU failed to hold a 14-point, 33-19 lead in the second half and shot just 2-of-22 from three-point range (.091) and .304 (17-56) from the field. Senior point guard KEITH WILLIAMS (Jersey City, NJ/Create Charter) had 13 points for NJCU with six rebounds and two steals. Senior power forward TOM McDERMOTT (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) added seven points and seven rebounds. For Rowan, Kendall White had 13 points, four blocks and four rebounds. Steve Secula had a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
LAST TIME OUT: On Wednesday, two days after beating Montclair State by 20 points to clinch the No. 2 seed in the NJAC North Division, the Knights had their nine-game winning streak snapped in a 62-53 loss at Montclair in the second game of a home-and-home series. NJCU trailed at halftime for the first time in more than two months and shot .316 overall (18-57). Senior guard JAMES LIVINGSTON (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central matched his career-high with 17 points, shooting 11-of-12 from the line. Senior swingman ROB ROBINSON (Newark, NJ/Malcolm X. Shabazz) scored 12 points and hit two threes.
STILL HOT: NJCU has won nine of its last 10 games and 13 of 16 overall.
HOME IS WHERE THE WINS ARE: NJCU is 9-2 at home this season and has won 12 of its last 14 in Jersey City since last season.
LEADING THE LEAGUE: NJCU leads the NJAC in six categories—scoring margin, free throw percentage, field goal percentage defense, blocked shots, steals, and turnover margin.
WIN, BY A LOT: NJCU has won eight of its 16 games by at least 20 points this season. Furthermore, the Knights have posted wins of 30 or more five times and three routs by 50 points (56, 53, 51).
SCORING MARGIN: NJCU's scoring margin (+13.4) is 12th in Division III this season. In the NJAC, the margin is 4.7 more than the second place team, Ramapo College.
WE'LL TAKE THAT: NJCU continues to rank No. 2 in Division III among 402 schools in steals at 12.6 per game. In the NJAC, the Knights are first in steals at 12.1—2.3 per game more than Ramapo. KEITH WILLIAMS is the conference leader at 2.8 per game, ranking 19th nationally.
TAKE IT, DON'T GIVE IT: NJCUs turnover margin of +6.16 per game is a staggering 4.80 more per game than any other school in the conference. Richard Stockton is a distant second at +1.36 per game. NJCU ranks No. 8 nationally in turnover margin. No other school in the NJAC ranks higher than 112th.
ON THE SIXTH DAY, WE WIN: NJCU is 6-2 on Saturday this season; Rowan is 3-6 on the first day of the weekend.
D-FENCE: NJCU leads the NJAC in field goal percentage defense (.389). The Knights rank No. 17 in the country as a team in the important defensive category. The Knights also rank 33rd nationally in scoring defense (61.7). The Knights have limited an opponent to fewer than 50 points eight times this season.
LIVINGSTON LIVING IT UP: JAMES LIVINGSTON is living it up on the foul line over his last eight games. He has converted 37 of his last 39 free throw attempts and twice has made 11-of-12 in a game this season. He ranks No. 2 in the NJAC in free throw percentage at .843 (59-70), 2/100th behind teammate and senior guard DA'SHON BARRINO (East Orange, NJ/Malcolm X. Shabazz)(.845, 49-58).
