GOTHIC KNIGHT BOWLING GOES 5-0 ON DAY TWO OF MORGAN STATE INVITATIONAL, WINS 70TH MATCH OF SEASON

- Amy Brehm was the star for NJCU in the first two matches. Her 220 in the 17-pin win over Norfolk State proved to be the difference for NJCU; the next highest score was a 191. NJCU went 5-0 on the day with Brehm serving as the leadoff bowler.

BALTIMORE, MD (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Junior AMY BREHM (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) posted a five-match average of 202.60 and junior JENNIFER DAUNNO (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) made several key clutch shots in an important win over #8 ranked Sacred Heart University, as the No. 9 ranked New Jersey City University women's bowling team posted a perfect 5-0 record on day two of the three-day Morgan State University Invitational.
 
NJCU, ranked No. 9 nationally among Division I, II and III schools at the start of the day, improved its season record to 70-26 (.729). It was the sixth time this season in 21 dates of competition that the Gothic Knights went undefeated in every match played in a day. NJCU is 9-1 in two days at the tournament.
 
NJCU currently lists fifth of 19 teams in the field with a total two-day pinfall of 8,297. No. 3 ranked University of Nebraska leads with 8,910 pins (8-1 record). No. 1 ranked University of Maryland Eastern Shore is second (8,871, 8-1), followed by #12 Vanderbilt University (8,833, 8-2), Sacred Heart (8,424, 7-3) and NJCU. Rounding out the top eight are No. 17 Delaware State University (8,169, 5-5), No. 16 Norfolk State University (7,956, 4-5) and #18 Florida A&M University (7,778, 3-6).
 
All matches on day two of the tournament were five-person traditional team games. NJCU opened with an 861-770 win over Bethune-Cookman University. In the second match, the Knights outlasted #16 Norfolk State, 913-896. NJCU cruised past North Carolina Central University, 935-810, in the third match.
 
NJCU notched its highest score of the day by routing host Morgan State by 130 pins, 1026-896. In the final match—a key one for two schools vying for an NCAA Tournament berth—the Knights rallied from a large early deficit and bettered #8 Sacred Heart, 915-880.
 
Brehm posted a five-game pinfall of 1013 to lead the way for NJCU, with a 202.60 average and game scores of 202-220-182-228-181. JENNIFER DAUNNO added a 197.60 average and 988 pinfall (172-191-190-223-212). Sophomore KELLY DAUNNO (Carteret, NJ/Carteret)  had a 939 pinfall (155-186-192-236-170) and 187.80 average in five games while reigning NCAA Division III National Player of the Year, senior NICOLE DREJERWSKI (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic)

finished with total wood of 919 (182-191-203-165-178, 183.80 average).
 
Three freshmen also saw action, led by rookie NICOLE BAGINSKY (South River, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) with 516 total wood (168-174-174, 172.00). Rookies ASHLEY JOHNSON (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) and ALEXIS FREES (Linden, NJ/Linden) each bowled one game.
 
Brehm was the star for NJCU in the first two matches, bowling a 202 in the 91-pin win over Bethune-Cookman. Her 220 in the 17-pin win over Norfolk State proved to be the difference for NJCU; the next highest score was a 191.
 
Drejerwski came alive with a 203 in the 125-pin rout of North Carolina Central. Three NJCU bowlers exceeded 220 in the victory against Morgan State, led by KELLY DAUNNO's 236. AMY BREHM tossed a 228 for her third 200 game of the day, and JENNIFER DAUNNO rolled a 223.
 
In the final match against Sacred Heart, JENNIFER DAUNNO was the storyline, compiling a 212 game, which featured four consecutive strikes and the rest of the lineup contributed no worse than a 170 as the Knights picked up a critical win over the Pioneers. NJCU is now 2-4 against the Pioneers this season with at least one more meeting remaining.
 
On the final day of the tournament on Sunday, February 20, the schools will compete in two best 4-of-7 Baker series in the fifth through eighth-place bracket. NJCU, the No. 5 seed will meet #8 Florida A&M, and then either sixth-seeded Delaware State or seventh place Norfolk State.
