After Drew scored two quick runs following back-to-back walks to open the game, NJCU bounced back with six runs in the bottom of the first inning as 11 men came to the plate and the Knights pieced together a six-hit inning. Gonzalez walked, stole second and third and Ramirez doubled to drive in a run. A two-run single to left center by Gutierrez scored Fiorentino who had walked and Ramirez for a 3-2 lead. Gutierrez later scored on an error. Bustillo singled and scored on a bloop double by Lacik, before he came around with the sixth run on a Rivera RBI single up the middle.

NJCU added one run in the second inning when Witte led off with a four-pitch walk, stole second and third, and scored on an RBI groundout by Gutierrez.

In the third inning, NJCU cranked out six more runs for a 13-2 lead as 11 men batted again, and the Knights compiled six hits. Lacik and Gonzalez singled and Fiorentino walked to load the bases. Gonzalez scored on a balk before Witte singled home two more runs for a 9-2 margin. Gutierrez had an RBI single before Lacik capped the inning with a two-run single to right to score Gutierrez and Ramirez, who had walked.
