of March. But after 10 exhaustive innings, including a wild eighth inning that saw each school score four times, junior shortstop MEGAN GINTER (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) deposited a walkoff single in the bottom of the 10th inning as NJCU overcame and outlasted Bridgewater State University, 15-14, in game six for the Gothic Knights at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on March 9 at the Lee County Sports Complex. The win was the 100th in the career of eighth-year head coach BRIDGETTE QUIMPO.

NJCU improved to 3-3 on the season while playing only the sixth game that reached at least the 10th inning in program history. Ironically, NJCU is also 3-3 all-time in extra-inning contests that reach double-figure in frame length. The loss dropped Bridgewater State, a member of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC), to 4-4.

For NJCU, which played a 10+ inning game on a neutral field for the first time, the 15 runs were the most scored in a game of that length. The longest games on record in program history are 11 innings—twice.

Ginter was one of five NJCU players with multiple hits, batting 3-for-7 with two RBIs while

sophomore third baseman REBECCA SATZ (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) was 4-for-6 with two runs and two RBIs. Senior first baseman TAYLOR LANG (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) was 3-for-6 with two runs.

Senior second baseman DANIELLE DELFINO (Jersey City, NJ/County Prep) swiped two steals and finished 2-for-5 with two runs. Rookie catcher MARISSA BARISO (Hewitt, NJ/West Milford) slammed her second homerun of the season and collected two runs and two RBIs.

Also for NJCU, senior right fielder JORDAN POTTER (Jersey City, NJ/County Prep) was 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI and junior pitcher/left fielder JESS MUCERINO (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park) had two RBIs.

Sophomore right-hander ASHLEY O'BEIRNE (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Immaculate Conception) pitched the final 2.0 innings in relief to earn the win (2-2). She fired a perfect ninth and 10th innings, allowing no hits with two strikeouts.

The Bears were led by sophomore third baseman Jennifer Shaw (Brockton, MA) who was 6-for-6 with three RBIs and three runs as the No. 3 batter. Junior second baseman Michaela Ferreira (Fall River, MA) added three RBIs, going 2-for-4 with a run.

Also for BSU, senior first baseman Penny King (Hanover, MA) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs and junior designated player Shanna Lathrop (Hopedale, MA) came off the bench for two runs, batting 2-for-3. Sophomore right fielder Brianna DeNucci (Newton, MA) scored twice and sophomore left fielder Felecia Wissekerke (Uxbridge, MA) had two RBIs.

Senior righty Tracey Sanko (Windsor, CT) took the loss in relief. In 2.2 innings she fanned four and walked none but allowed two runs (one earned) and five hits. Sophomore righty Meghan Dunn (Colchester, CT) started and gave up 13 runs (five earned) and 13 hits with five Ks and three walks in 7.0 innings. BSU committed six errors in the game.

In a back and forth game, Shaw gave BSU a 1-0 lead with a first inning solo homerun. NJCU answered with three runs in the first and two more in the second for a 5-1 lead. In the first, Satz singled with two outs before Bariso slammed a two-run homer over the left center field fence. Delfino followed with a single, stole second, and scored on an error. In the second inning, rookie center fielder CASEY PEREZ (West New York, NJ/Academy of the Holy Angels) reached on an error, stole second, advanced on a single by Ginter and scored on the Bears' second error of the inning. Ginter later scored on a fielder's choice.

BSU closed the gap to 5-4 with two runs in the third inning on a fielding error and a single run in the fourth inning on a two-out RBI double by Shaw. NJCU increased the lead to 7-4 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Mucerino walked with two outs, stole second and scored on

an RBI single by Satz, who also came around on a later dropped fly.

Bridgewater stormed back with six runs in the top of the fifth to claim a 10-7 advantage as the Bears collected six hits and nine batters came to the plate. Wissekerke notched a two-run double before an RBI single by King tied it. Shaw followed with a go-ahead RBI double before Ferreira knocked in two more runs with a single to center.

NJCU wasn't fazed and responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie it at 10-10. Lang singled to leadoff and scored after a pair of throwing errors by the Bears. Mucerino had a bases loaded walk and Satz tied it with an RBI single to right.

BSU stranded two runners in the sixth inning after a pair of one-out singles. The Bears had another chance in the seventh when Shaw had a two-out single and  Ferreira reached on an error before a foul out ended the inning. In the bottom of the seventh, NJCU could have won it after Mucerino dumped a one-out double into right center, before a pair of fly outs ended the inning.

Bridgewater looked like it would win after scoring four runs in the top of the eighth to claim a 14-10 cushion. With the international tiebreaker rule in place, Lathrop singled in the runner from second base to give the Bears the lead. With two outs, Lathrop made it 12-10 when she stole second, moved to third on a single and scored on a wild pitch. An RBI single by King made it 13-10. Shaw added a single to load the bases and Ferreira

drew a bases loaded walk to extend the lead to 14-10 before the inning ended with the bases full after an interference call.

But NJCU answered again with four runs and four hits in the bottom of the eighth. Bariso began the inning on second base, Delfino walked and Lang singled to load the bags. Potter singled to center field to score Bariso and Perez made it 14-12 with an infield hit. An RBI single by Ginter cut the deficit to one with only one out and Mucerino tied the game with a based-loaded ground out.

BSU went in order in the top of the ninth with a double play ending the frame. In the ninth, NJCU had another chance to win. Satz began the inning on second base and tagged up on a fly out. Delfino followed with an infield single and stole second, but Sanko fanned the final two batters of the inning as NJCU stranded the winning runs in scoring position.

In the 10th, junior center fielder Jordan McDermott (East Bridgewater, MA) started the inning on second base and moved to third on a passed ball. The next batter hit a grounder to first and Lang kept the game tied with a throw to the plate to nail McDermott trying to score. O'Beirne ended the inning by striking out Wissekerke and King.

Then in the bottom of the 10th O'Beirne was placed on second base and was sacrificed to third by rookie JANISSA CARDONA (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth). After a strikeout, Ginter came to the plate and won it for NJCU with a single to left center that scored O'Beirne with the 15th and final run.
