BOX SCORES: GAME 1 | GAME 2
MAHWAH, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University was shutout for the first time this season and the first time in a span of 38 games as Ramapo College tossed a pair of four-hitters and swept a New Jersey Athletic Conference softball doubleheader, 4-0 in game one and 15-0 in five innings in the second contest, on Thursday at the Ramapo Athletic Center.
With the wins, Ramapo improves to 22-6 and 8-4 in the league, with 16 points. NJCU (11-21, 0-12) lost its 10th in a row. RCNJ leads the all-time series, 43-14, winning the last 18 meetings. The games were a makeup of an April 19 rainout. The 15-run margin of defeat was NJCU's most lopsided setback of the season.

In the opener, Ramapo received a masterful pitching performance from senior right-hander Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley), who improved to 10-2 with her third shutout of the season. She struck out 11 and walked three and NJCU was shutout for the first time since a 6-0 loss to Richard Stockton College on April 24, 2010.
Sophomore left fielder Ashley Schirripa (Staten Island, NY) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and junior Danielle Rothenberger (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Sophomore shortstop Kelsey Higgins (Wall, NJ/Wall) batted 2-for-3.
Four different NJCU players had a single in the game. Sophomore righty ASHLEY O'BEIRNE (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Immaculate Conception) took the loss (7-10), despite allowing only four runs against nine hits with one walk.
Ramapo got the lone run it would need in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs, Schirripa lofted a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence for her first homerun of the season and fifth of her career.
RCNJ added three runs in the third inning to give their starting pitcher a four-run cushion. Sophomore second baseman Amanda Kent (Sparta, NJ/Pope John XXII) led off with a single. NJCU retired the next two batters before Rothenberger ripped a 2-0 pitch over the left field fence for her fifth homer of the season and 11th of her career. RCNJ followed with an infield single and a double before Schirripa drove in a run with an infield single. NJCU's best chances to score came in the first and fourth innings when the Knights stranded two runners on the bases.

In game two, Ramapo scored six runs on five hits in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 15-0 win. Junior righty Lauren Shaw (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) struck out six over 66 pitches and walked none, while allowing four singles as she improved to 4-0.

Ramapo took a sizeable lead with six runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a three-run bases-clearing double to center by Higgins. RCNJ added three runs in the second inning and four runs in the third. Orlando had a two-run single in the frame. Masiello led off the fourth with a homer to left field and Fischer went back-to-back with her teammate when she lofted a 3-2 pitch out of the park for the final run of the game.
