For the Raiders, senior centerfielder Jessica Zelaya (Kearny, NJ) and sophomore catcher Monica Liotto (Morris Plains, NJ) each went 2-for-4 to pace Rutgers-Newark's nine-hit attack.
Sophomore leftfielder Nicole Odell (Hammonton, NJ) had a two-run double that highlighted a four-run fifth inning. Freshman second baseman Stacey Jacovinich (Woodbridge, NJ) was 1-for-4 with two runs.

The Knights added a single run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by senior second baseman DANIELLE DELFINO (Jersey City, NJ/County Prep), to score Ginter, who singled, and was followed with walks by Bariso and sophomore third baseman REBECCA SATZ (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) to load the bases. Freshman third baseman AJ Affholter (Trenton, MI) singled to left and Odell doubled down the left field line. Freshman shortstop Tiara Santi (Bethlehem, PA) lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield to cap the rally.

But the Raiders escaped the jam when senior second baseman Emily Ibarra (Kearny, NJ) snared a high line drive on a sharply hit ball by sophomore left fielder SAMANTHA RUDICK (Closter, NJ/Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) that started a double play and then NJCU struck out, leaving two runners on.
Newark took a 3-1 lead in the third on five hits. Ibarra singled and scored on Zelaya's triple. Zelaya was thrown out at the plate on a fielder's choice, but a throwing error allowed a second run to cross. Affholter had an RBI single for the third run before the Raiders left three runners on the bags.
Newark added to its lead in the fifth with three runs on four hits. Spinella ripped a two-run double to right centerfield in the fifth and scored the winning run on a throwing error after a single by Drastal.

With two outs, Satz singled to center to score Ginter. Bariso kept the inning alive with a single to shortstop before Mucerino slammed a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence, cutting the deficit to 6-5.
