BROOKLYN, NY (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Polytechnic Institute of New York University, the defending Skyline Conference champions, defeated
New Jersey City University for the first time in eight all-time meetings between the schools, 3-0 (25-11, 25-11. 25-18), in a non-conference contest on Tuesday night at Jacobs Gymnasium.
The Fighting Blue Jays improve to 13-6 overall in the first meeting between the schools since October 18, 2003. NJCU, which now leads the all-time series, 7-1, loses its fourth straight, dropping to 3-6.
Poly had a 39-17 margin in kills and hit .345 as a team (39-10-84), while limiting the Knights to -.067 attacking (17-23-89).

CINDY GARCIA (West New York, NJ/Memorial) had 17 assists for the Knights while junior outside hitter
KIARA MARTINEZ (Newark, NJ/East Side) landed three aces. Junior defensive specialist
AMANDA DOPICO (West New York, NJ/Memorial) had a team-high eight digs.
Poly was led by senior middle blocker
Victoria Kalvert (Missouri City, TX), who hit .588 with 11 kills and only one error in 17 swings, while adding three solo blocks, eight digs and three aces. Junior outside hitter
Noelle Mckoy (Garrison, NY) hit .455 with seven kills (7-2-11) while senior right side
Alexis Walker (Rochester, NY) added eight kills on a .375 percentage (8-2-16).

Corey Loupee (Crown Point, IN) contributed 27 assists and nine digs while sophomore libero
Rebecca Eaker (Houston, TX) landed five aces.
Poly had 13 kills in each set, and hit .458 and .400 in the first two games. Poly opened leads of 17-8 and 21-9 in the opening period before grabbing a 17-9 cushion in the second game for a 2-0 advantage in the match. In the final set NJCU rebounded early, leading 8-2, 11-7 and 13-9 before the Blue Jays used a 6-0 run, including three kills by
Kalvert, to regain a 15-13 edge. Leading 20-16, the hosts scored five of the final seven points to claim the match.
NJCU will host Rutgers-Newark in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match on Thursday, September 29 at 7 p.m. at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center on 'Coach Charlie Brown Court.'
