STOCKTON TOO MUCH IN SWEEP OF NJCU

- Stockton was too strong for the Gothic Knights on October 9.

Four-time defending New Jersey Athletic Conference champion Richard Stockton College hit .481 as a team and limited New Jersey City University to seven kills in sweeping the Gothic Knights, 3-0 (25-11, 25-4, 25-7) in an NJAC match on October 9 at the Stockton Sports Center.
 
Stockton won its eighth consecutive match and improved to 18-4 overall and 5-0 in the league. The Ospreys have won 27 consecutive conference matches and captured 21 straight home matches. NJCU dropped to 5-13 and 0-5 in the league. Stockton leads the all-time series, 41-5.
 
Stockton had 30 kills and only committed four errors in 54 attack chances. The .481 attack percentage was the highest by an opponent on record since match-by-match opponents totals were tracked beginning in the 2000 season.
 
NJCU was limited to seven kills and committed 16 errors on 50 attempts (-.180). The Knights hit in the red for the ninth time this season.
 
Senior middle blocker BRITTANY EREZUMA (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) had a team-best three kills in the loss. Sophomore outside hitter MARISSA SCARPA (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) added four assists. Sophomore setter CINDY GARCIA (West New York, NJ/Memorial) and sophomore middle hitter INDIGO HATCHER (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) each had four digs.
 
Two-time NJAC Player of the Week and junior opposite Nicole Serekian (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) hit .700 with seven kills to lead the hosts and landed three of Stockton's 11 aces. Junior outside hitter Kasey Hennecke (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) hit .714 with six kills (one error) on seven attempts and floored a pair of aces. Senior middle hitter Stephanie Warner (Totowa, NJ/Passaic Valley), the reigning NJAC Player of the Year, hit .455 with six kills (one error, 11 attempts) and two blocks.
 
Freshman setter Shannon Clark (Folsom, PA/Ridley) and junior setter Mayan Alvarado (Gainesville/P.K. Yonge) each dished 10 assists while sophomore libero Ashley Gubista (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) recorded six digs.
 
NJCU is back at home on Thursday, October 11 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Kean University in an NJAC match at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center.
