sophomore goalkeeper BRITTANY HOFFMAN (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) made 11 saves, including four in the second overtime period to keep the game scoreless as the Gothic Knights and Widener University played to a 0-0 tie in double overtime on day two of the Scarlet Raiders Soccer Classic at Rutgers-Newark's Alumni Field.

Hoffman, who made double digits in saves for the third time this season and eighth time in her career, earned selection to the All-Tournament Team along with senior center midfielder BRIANNA TAYLOR (Linden, NJ/Linden).

NJCU is now 1-2-2 overall and played only the second scoreless tie in program history—and the first since 1997. The second tie this season marks the first time since 1995 that the Knights have had multiple ties in the same campaign.

Meanwhile Widener, meeting NJCU for the first time ever, played its third consecutive overtime game to start the year and is now 1-1-1.

St. Joseph's College (LI), 3-0 winners over NJCU on Friday night, defeated host Rutgers-Newark, 1-0 on Saturday, to win the tournament.

Hoffman, who notched her first shutout of the season and eighth of her career , made five saves in the first half and five in the two overtime periods, but none more important than her deflection in the waning moments of the game.

With 22 seconds remaining, junior midfielder Kelly Buckley (Villanova, PA) launched a shot from approximately 40 yards out which forced Hoffman to backpedal before she tipped the dangerous final chance up and over the crossbar before it could threaten to be on target.

Widener junior goalie Valarie Perretti (Clayton, NJ) made four saves to also record a shutout. Widener outshot NJCU, 24-16, and Buckley led the Pride with 10 shots, including seven on goal. Junior forward Olivia Yoh (Wernersville, PA) added five shots.

Senior defender ANGELICA GLOVER (Union, NJ/Union Catholic) had six shots for NJCU while freshman midfielder KAITLYN LIMA (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) had five, including two on goal.

Next on the slate for NJCU is a non-conference game at the College of Staten Island on Tuesday, September 11 at 4 p.m.
