Stockton (22-5, 5-0 NJAC) extended its 2013 winning streak to 17 and the Ospreys won their 37
th consecutive match against NJAC opponents since October 28, 2009. NJCU (6-19, 1-4 NJAC) dropped its fifth straight match.
The Ospreys had a 36-19 advantage in kills, committing just 11 errors in 74 swings in a match where 14 different visiting players saw considerable action. Stockton, which featured five players of 6-foot-0 stature and 11 at least 5-foot-7, used its clear size advantage to reject 8.0 blocks in the match. NJCU was limited to -.035 hitting (19-22-85)—the fifth time this year an opponent has held NJCU's attacking percentage in the red.
Three-time All-NJAC performance and senior right side hitter
Nicole Serekian (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah), a three-time NJAC Player of the Week this season, hit a colossal .889 with eight kills and no errors in nine attempts.
For NJCU, rookie middle hitter
SHEGE HAXHAJ (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) hit .214 and had five kills (5-2-14) and a solo block in two sets of action. Junior opposite
ASHLEY LATUSHKO (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) finished with five kills, five digs and two aces. Junior setter
MADELYN LEON (West New York, NJ/Memorial) finished with 13 assists.
For Stockton, senior outside hitter
Kasey Hennecke (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) had a .400 percentage with seven kills against one error (15 attempts) while adding three assisted blocks. Sophomore middle hitter
Macy Schwartz (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) had five assisted blocks and six kills at a .400 clip (6-2-10) and sophomore outside
Samantha Wood (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) delivered five kills (5-2-11, .273).
Also for the Ospreys in a two-setter system, sophomore
Shannon Clark (Folsom, PA/Ridley) had 15 assists and two aces and senior
Mayan Alvarado (Gainesville, FL/P.K. Yonge) added 10 assists and nine digs. Freshman
Rebecka Zabilowicz (Belmar, NJ/Red Bank Regional) chipped in a match-high 10 digs.
Stockton hit .423 in game one with 14 kills (14-3-26) and broke open a close contest (9-8) with five consecutive points which became a 9-1 run and an 18-9 lead. In all, Stockton scored 16 of the final 19 points to win the set.
The Ospreys led the entire second set, hitting .348 with 11 winners (11-3-23), opening an initial 7-2 lead before cruising to the 25-16 win. Stockton added 11 kills in the third set and held NJCU to a -.111 attack clip (5-8-27). The Ospreys jumped out to a 5-1 lead and gradually extended it from there before prevailing 25-15.
NJCU is back on the court on Thursday, October 17 at 7 p.m. when it faces Kean University in an NJAC match at Harwood Arena in Union, NJ.
