Kean received a sensational individual effort from NJAC Player of the Year candidate Kaitlyn Hansen, who put away 24 kills and hit .571 with only four errors (35 attempts). The 6-foot-1 senior middle hitter was unstoppable all-around, landing six service aces and three blocks (two solo).

Hansen had the most kills by an NJCU opponent since CCNY's Dalliana Toussaint tallied 29 kills in five sets on October 22, 2011. Meanwhile, the 24 kills were the most by an opponent in a three-set match in recorded school history.

With its fourth straight win, Kean improved to 21-7 (5-2 NJAC). NJCU (6-19, 1-5 NJAC, lost six) was limited to -.028 hitting (16-18-72)—the sixth time this year an opponent has held NJCU's attacking percentage in the red.

In defeat, junior middle hitter Jade Medley (Queens, NJ/Hudson Catholic) was NJCU's top offensive player, hitting .667 with six kills and no errors on nine attempts. Junior setter Madelyn Leon (West New York, NJ/Memorial) finished with 14 assists. Senior libero Cindy Garcia (West New York, NJ/Memorial) had a nice effort with four aces and seven digs.

Outside of Hansen, no other Kean player had more than four kills. Aysia Peterson hit .571 with four kills (4-0-7) and three blocks. Alana Aranjo and Nicollette Poveromo finished with 21 and 17 assists, respectively. Aranjo had a .636 setting percentage (33 attempts) while Poveromo had a .548 rate (31 attempts).

Kean never trailed in the first or third sets. The Cougars hit .667 in game one with 12 kills and no errors (18 attempts). Kean hit .393 in set two with 13 kills (13-2-28) and collected 16 kills in the final set, hitting .444 (16-4-27).

The Gothic Knights best performance came in set two when they hit .263 with eight kills (8-3-19). NJCU hit -.280 in the opening set with one kill against eight errors. In the first set, Kean scored 20 consecutive points behind the serving of Alix Denison, who had four aces in the match, to claim a 23-1 lead.

NJCU challenged the Cougars in game two. After trailing 17-11, NJCU fought back to tie it at 18-18 and 19-19 on kills by Leon and Garcia and held a 20-19 advantage before Hansen tied it with a kill and Jen Espinal uncorked three consecutive aces for a 23-20 lead. Hansen floored two kills to account for the final two points. Kean surged out to leads of 13-3 and 18-9 in the final set before completing the sweep.

NJCU will play two home matches this Saturday, October 19 at 12 and 2 p.m. when it hosts Delaware Valley College and King's College (Pa.) at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center.
