Montclair improved to 15-0-0 and 7-0-0 in the NJAC. The Red Hawks are ranked No. 3 nationally by D3soccer.com and No. 8 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with a No. 2 NSCAA South Atlantic Region ranking to go along with it. NJCU fell to 1-9-1 (0-7-0).
MSU outshot NJCU, 30-1, putting 18 shots on goal, and had a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks. MSU was whistled for nine offsides.
Under heavy pressure, two-time All-New Jersey Athletic Conference junior goalkeeper
Brittany Hoffman (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) kept the Gothic Knights in the contest, stopping 14 shots, including a half dozen highlight-reel caliber stops. She reached double figures in saves for the 19
th time in her career and seventh consecutive game, while stopping 11 chances in the first half alone. NJCU leads the nation in saves per game behind
Hoffman, who is currently No. 4 individually in Division III in the category.
For Montclair, which has not lost since a 2-0 setback at Lynchburg in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on November 11, 2012, four different players scored in the contest.
Montclair came out flying and scored on each of its first two attempts. Sophomore
Martina Landeka (Westfield, NJ, Westfield) got the first goal 1:52 into the game as she finished off a feed from junior Kaila
Fasano (Westwood, NJ, Westwood) inside the left post for her third of the year giving MSU a 1-0 lead.
It grew to 2-0 as
Fasano made it a two-goal lead almost immediately after the kickoff. Senior
Jenna Carroll (East Brunswick, NJ, East Brunswick) collected a ball on the left side, sending it through to the six yardline where
Fasano tapped it in for her sixth goal of the year at 2:13.
Freshman
Jennie Hornstra (Clifton, NJ, Clifton) and junior
Kerry Glynn (Old Bridge, NJ, Old Bridge) each added goals in the 42
nd and 77
th minutes. MSU outshot NJCU 18-0 in the first 45 minutes.
MSU extended the halftime lead to 3-0 when
Kendel Bernardini (Elmer, NJ/Schalick) assisted on
Hornstra's goal with 3:29 to go in the period, a shot finished left.
Glynn tallied her fifth of the season at 76:57 on an assist from
Janae Geonnetti, as she received a ball played into the box, dribbled past a diving
Hoffman, and poked home a shot inside the far post.
Freshman goalkeeper
Meghan Calcaterra (Madison, NJ, Madison) recorded a win and shutout in her first career start. The shutout was the 13th for the Red Hawks in 15 matches this season. Montclair currently leads Division III in goals against average and is second in shutout percentage. Senior
GABRIELLE RIVERA (Teaneck, NJ/Saint Joseph of the Palisades) collected NJCU's lone shot in the final minute.
NJCU is off until Saturday, October 26 at 1 p.m. when it faces yet another nationally ranked NJAC opponent, facing #4/10 The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ.

BRITTANY HOFFMAN now has 460 career saves. Amanda Cobb (1997-00, 66 games) holds the school record of 1,114 saves, which was the NCAA's all-divisions, all-genders career record upon her graduation (since surpassed by Emily Epperson of Wesleyan (GA) with 1,127 in 67 games (2007-10). Gina Sgroi (2002-03) is second in school history with 470 saves.
