ROADRUNNERS SWEEP NJCU IN FIRST MATCH OF OCTOBER

- NJCU wasn't able to match the mistake-free volleyball of its Mahwah-based counterparts.

Box Score MAHWAH, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Ramapo College committed only nine attack errors in 78 attempts and used that efficiency to knock off  New Jersey City University, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-11) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's volleyball match played at the Bradley Center.

RCNJ improves to 2-1 in the conference (7-8 overall) with the win, hitting .256 as a team with 29 kills. NJCU (5-12, 0-3 NJAC) hit .066 in the loss and committed 16 attack errors and 45 total miscues in the match.
 
In defeat for NJCU, senior libero CINDY GARCIA (West New York, NJ/Memorial) defended 11 digs—the 39th time in her career she's gone into double figures in the defensive category. Junior middle hitter JADE MEDLEY (Queens, NJ/Hudson Catholic) was NJCU's kills leader, hitting .200 with six winners (6-3-15). Junior setter MADELYN LEON (West New York, NJ/Memorial) totaled 16 assists and three service aces.
 
Ramapo's Cathryn Smart had a match-high eight kills, hitting .286 (8-2-21) with four aces and two blocks. Rachel Selmore tallied seven kills (7-3-19, .211) with Emily Guzman collecting six kills (6-1-17, .294) and three aces.
 
Setter Kaitlin Mac Iver dished 17 assists, seven digs and two aces. Sara Pendleton hit .333 with five putaways (5-1-12) and two blocks. Emily Harris distributed 13 digs.
 
Ramapo and NJCU traded six ties in game one, the last at 21-21 before the Roadrunners scored the final three points of the period—including back-to-back kills by Smart and a clinching ace from Harris.
 
In set two, the clubs swapped the lead six times in the early going and saw 10 ties, but none after 14-14. From there, RCNJ opened an 18-14 advantage as Smart floored three straight service aces. RCNJ pulled away and won by seven, 25-18. In game three, the Roadrunners jumped out to a 15-6 lead and were never challenged.
 
NJCU is off until Tuesday, October 8 at 6 p.m. when it faces Hunter College in non-conference action in New York, NY.
