 | New Jersey City University senior right-hander ASHLEY O'BEIRNE (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Immaculate Conception) fired her third consecutive shutout to run her scoreless innings streak to 21, and NJCU scored four runs—three unearned—in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Gothic Knights blanked Wisconsin Lutheran College, 4-0, in game four of eight at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic played on March 12 at the Lee County Sports Complex Field #1.

NJCU improved to 3-1 on the season while Wisconsin Lutheran fell to 2-2 with the loss. The Warriors stranded all 11 of its runners on base in the game.

O'Beirne picked up her third win of the season (3-1), striking out two batters versus three walks while limiting WLC to four singles.

NJCU won despite recording only two hits—by junior left fielder CASEY PEREZ (West New York, NJ/Academy of the Holy Angels) and freshman first baseman FAITH ELY (Vienna, NJ/Hackettstown).

Rookie right fielder THALIA GARCIA (Ridgefield, NJ/North Bergen) tallied a run and an RBI while junior catcher MARISSA BARISO (Hewitt, NJ/West Milford) drove in one run. Senior third baseman REBECCA SATZ (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) and junior second baseman MAXINE KAMINSKI (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) and each scored a run for NJCU.

Rookie pitcher Bekah Shellberg (Burlington, WI) endured her first career loss (1-1), allowing two hits with one strikeout and three walks. On the offensive end, Shellberg went 3-for-4. Junior shortstop Jinny Curtis (Muskego, WI) had the other hit for the Warriors.

The Warriors had runners on base in every inning but each time a player for WLC reached, O'Beirne got the outs necessary to keep the opponents off the scoreboard. She produced a pop out to the catcher in the first, a groundout to the mound in the second to strand two, and grounder to third in the third inning. Groundouts to second ended the fourth and fifth innings.

In the top of the sixth, Wisconsin Lutheran had runners on second and third after a single and walk, but O'Beirne coaxed a liner to shortstop. In the top of the seventh, the Warriors had two runners on base for the fourth time in the game after a one-out error followed by a walk before O'Beirne struck out a batter looking and forced a flyout to center to end the game.

Both of NJCU's hits came in the bottom of the third, but the Knights couldn't plate a run. After being deadlocked at 0-0 for the first five innings, NJCU was finally able to capitalize in the bottom of the sixth. Perez started the four-run inning with a walk before she advanced to second on a wild pitch. Satz reached on a Warriors' fielding error that advanced Perez to third. On the next at bat, Garcia executed a suicide squeeze bunt that scored Perez with the first run and advanced Satz to third, before she scored on a passed ball. Bariso reached on an error at third that allowed Garcia to score with the third run. Kaminski, who walked, scored on a double play for the fourth run before O'Beirne iced the win in the seventh.

Day three of the softball spring trip shifts to Cape Coral, FL on Wednesday, March 13 as NJCU faces Ohio Wesleyan University (9 a.m.) and Drew University (11 a.m.). Fan can follow the live stats of the game on NJCUGothicKnights.com or via Twitter at the @NJCU_Athletics handle.
