JERSEY CITY, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com)
 | Senior third baseman REBECCA SATZ (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) hit a game-tying two-run homerun with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning in game two—her 15th career round-tripper—before junior catcher MARISSA BARISO (Hewitt, NJ/West Milford) drew a bases-loaded walk-off walk, as New Jersey City University rallied past Stevens Institute of Technology, 3-2, in game two of a softball non-conference doubleheader on March 23 at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex. Stevens won the opening game, 6-1.

NJCU remains at .500 on the season with a 6-6 record while Stevens picked up its first win (1-11) following a challenging California road trip to open the season. The Ducks lead the all-time series, 5-3.

Satz recorded three hits in seven at bats in the doubleheader and she recorded the 98th and 99th RBIs of her career in the second game while extending her hitting streak to eight. Bariso drove in a run in each game despite not recording a hit.
***GAME 1: STEVENS INSTITUTE 6, NEW JERSEY CITY 1***
In the opener, Stevens scored once in the third and two more in the fourth before adding three insurance runs in the seventh to seal its first win of the season. NJCU was limited to three hits in the loss. Each team stranded 11 runners on base.

Satz was 2-for-3 in a leadoff role for NJCU, for her seventh multi-hit game of the season and freshman right fielder THALIA GARCIA (Ridgefield, NJ/North Bergen) scored the NJCU run in a 1-for-4 effort.

Senior right-hander ASHLEY O'BEIRNE (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Immaculate Conception) suffered the loss (5-5), allowing nine hits and three earned runs while walking six batters and fanning one over 143 pitches.

Senior righty Molly Herforth (Pompton Plains, NJ/Montclair Kimberly Academy) earned her first win of the season (1-5), as she struck out five NJCU batters versus five walks and scattered three singles and one unearned run in 7.0 innings. Offensively, she was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run.

Junior shortstop Danielle DeFeo (Andover, NJ/Newton) was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run while rookie second baseman Sydney Spitz (Shelton, CT) scored two runs in a 2-for-3 effort.

Also for Stevens, freshman right fielder Kelsey Dempsey (Broomfield, CO) and senior center fielder Lauren Hurley (Sparta, NJ) each drove in a run. Sophomore first baseman Noelle Mulligan (Staten Island, NY) scored twice for the Ducks.

Stevens got on the scoreboard in the top of the third when Dempsey doubled to left field to score DeFeo, who was walked.

The Ducks would strike again in the fourth as Hurley grounded out to the second baseman but was able to score Mulligan in the process who singled to right center earlier in the inning. Stevens opened the inning with three consecutive singles and Spitz, who was the second Duck to reach, scored an unearned run for a 3-0 lead, on a passed ball.

Stevens would ensure its first victory of the season in the seventh on an RBI single by Herforth and a two-run single to left center by DeFeo.

Trailing 6-0, NJCU broke up the shutout in the bottom of the seventh on a one-out sacrifice fly by Bariso to score Garcia, who reached on an error.

***GAME 2: NEW JERSEY CITY 3, STEVENS INSTITUTE 2***
In game two, NJCU was being no-hit through four and two-third innings before breaking up the Stevens bid, and trailing 2-0 after six innings, won it in the final at bat. Despite only having five hits, NJCU did get the key hits when needed most. The Knights stranded 10 runners in game two; Stevens left nine on base.

Satz was 1-for-4 with her second homer of the season and Bariso walked three times. Junior second baseman MAXINE KAMINSKI (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) was 2-for-3 for NJCU.

Satz, sophomore left fielder TAYLOR SETAR (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) and freshman STEPHANIE MURPHY (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) each scored a run.

After pitching in the game one loss, O'Beirne rebounded gracefully as she picked up the win in game two (6-5). In 7.0 innings, she allowed two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

For Stevens, sophomore pitcher Brianna Sandone (Haddon Township, NJ/Bishop E) suffered her fifth loss of the season (0-5) as she allowed three runs and five hits while striking out two batters (six walks) in 6.2 innings.

Hurley was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run and DeFeo batted 2-for-3. Freshman right fielder Oriana DeFeo-Peterson (Patterson, NY) scored the other Stevens run. DeFeo-Peterson singled before scoring on a triple down the right field line by Hurley. A passed ball allowed Hurley to score the second run.

After being no-hit through the first four innings, Bariso and Setar walked in the fifth and junior center fielder CASEY PEREZ (West New York, NJ/Academy of the Holy Angels) singled to break up the no-no, before NJCU left the bases full. NJCU had its chances again in the bottom of the sixth after back-to-back two-out singles and another Bariso walk before a foul out to the catcher left the bases loaded again.

After not being able to capitalize on opportunities in the two preceding innings, the Knights would finally rally in the bottom of the seventh as they scored three runs on three hits. Setar doubled off the glove of the left fielder and with one out, Satz uncorked a homer over the right-center fence on the first pitch she saw to tie the game at 2-2. With two outs and the bases empty, freshman designated player JULIANA JACOBSON (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) was hit by a pitch, Kaminski singled and senior shortstop GABRIELLE RIVERA (Teaneck, NJ/Saint Joseph of the Palisades) drew a walk to load the bases. Murphy pinch-ran for Jacobson and came home with the winning run when Bariso walked on four pitches.

NJCU returns to action on Tuesday, March 26 as they host the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a non-conference makeup doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. The Knights were originally slated to host the Dolphins on March 19, but the game was postponed due to snow.
