MONTCLAIR STATE SWEEPS NJCU ON BASEBALL SENIOR DAY

 | New Jersey City University scored twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth inning to erase a 5-0 Montclair State University lead before the Red Hawks responded  by scoring nine times in the seventh and defeated NJCU, 14-6, in game two of a New Jersey Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader on April 27 at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex. In game one, Montclair became the first team to shutout NJCU in the last 40 games, blanking the Gothic Knights, 9-0.
 
NJCU is eliminated from post-season contention, falling to 17-21 overall and 5-13 in the NJAC. Montclair, which had lost six straight entering the action, improved to 14-18-1 and at 6-11-1 in the NJAC edged NJCU in the final standings for eighth place.
 
Between games of the doubleheader on Senior Day, NJCU honored its five-man senior class: left-handed pitcher PEDRO GARCIA (North Bergen, NJ/Saint Joseph of the Palisades), center fielder MICHAEL PATTERSON (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), senior left fielder ANDREW RIVERA (Edison, NJ/Edison), all-time victories leader and right-handed pitcher WENDELL RODRIGUEZ (Ponce, Puerto Rico/County Prep) and second baseman PETE SENYSZYN (Carteret, NJ/Carteret).
 
In defeat for NJCU, sophomore shortstop NICHOLAS D'ERRICO (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) was a combined 4-for-6 in the doubleheader, batting 2-for-3 in each game. Rookie catcher ANDREW NIECH (Avenel, NJ/Colonia) had four hits on the day, including three in game two.
 
Montclair, which had a combined 30 hits in the two games, was led by senior designated hitter Scott Glozzy (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills), who was a combined 4-for-8 with five RBIs.
 
Garcia equaled a single-season school record by making his 21st and 22nd appearances and the 50th of his career, primarily in relief.
