NJCU (3-7) committed 29 attack errors in the match but compensated for that with a more than 2-to-1 advantage in kills—a decisive 46-22 margin—in the first-ever meeting against King's (1-7).
 
Medley, who registered her 16^th career effort of double-digit kills and third of the season, posted her most kills since twice landing 16 kills as a freshman in 2011—the same year she also had a 25-kill performance. She hit at a .281 rate (16-7-32).
 
Junior MARISSA SCARPA (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) contributed a double-double of 12 kills (12-7-33, .152) and 12 digs. It was her sixth career double-digit kill effort, matching her career high accomplished twice before.
 
Senior libero CINDY GARCIA (West New York, NJ/Memorial) defended a match-best 22 digs. It was her 36^th career effort of double-digit kills and seventh time exceeding 20 digs in a contest. She added six assists and two aces.
  Also for NJCU, .junior setter MADELYN LEON (West New York, NJ/Memorial) delivered 32 assists and seven digs. Freshman middle blocker SHEGE HAXHAJ (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) chipped in seven kills with one attack error (27 attempts, .222). Rookie defensive specialist JESSICA PEREZ (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) picked up 13 digs.
 
The Lions' top offensive player was Kelli O'Donnell who hit .360 with nine kills and no errors (25 attempts), adding 17 digs and two aces. Setter Jessie Schnoebelen added 19 assists, 14 digs and two aces.
 
NJCU dominated the first set, hitting .385 with 12 kills and just two errors while TKC tallied five kills. Already owning a sizeable 18-12 lead, the Knights scored the final seven points of the set for a 25-12 win. Junior opposite ASHLEY LATUSHKO (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) had a pair of aces to control the serving in the final spurt.
 
NJCU struggled in the second set, committing 12 attack errors for a -.156 percentage (7-12-32). TKC only had four kills in the game but limited its attack errors (four). The Lions used those miscues to build an 11-2 lead, tying the match at 1-1 with a 25-17 decision.
 
But NJCU awoke for set three, putting away 11 kills (TKC had four). The Knights unleashing 16 kills in the fourth set to power its way to a 3-1 win. TKC did keep it close in the fourth set, pulling with 20-19, 22-20 and 23-21 before Medley put away her sweet 16^th kill on match point. Medley had two kills in the fourth set. Her most productive game was the third with six kills.
 
On day two of the tournament on September 22, NJCU faces Manhattanville College (all-time series, 4-4) at 1 p.m., followed by its first-ever meeting with host Sarah Lawrence College at 3 p.m.
