18 Saves by Hoffman Not Enough in Loss to Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Three-time All-New Jersey Athletic Conference senior goalkeeper Brittany Hoffman (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) was noteworthy again, stopping 18 shots under heavy pressure before Rowan University settled for a 4-0 win over New Jersey City University in NJAC women's soccer action on October 25.
 
Rowan (11-4-1, 6-1-1 NJAC) outshot NJCU (3-9-2, 0-8-0 NJAC) by a 38-0 margin, putting 22 shots on frame. Rowan, ranked No. 9 in the current week eight NSCAA Division III South Atlantic

Region poll, stayed alive for a potential first round bye in the NJAC Tournament. Rowan, currently third in the league standings with 19 points, is two points behind The College of New Jersey and three back of Montclair State University (22 points) with one game remaining in league play.
 
The Profs led 1-0 at halftime behind a 22nd minute goal before tacking on three goals in a span of 4:13 early in the second half—all assisted by crosses into the box by Melissa Kelly. Erika Suhl scored twice for the Profs and is now second in the league with 14 tallies.
 
Megan Carchidi scored the game-winner at 21:27 when she finished a double assist from Michelle Carpino and Deandra Turchi. Rowan had a 17-0 edge in shots at the break.
 
With 21 more second half shots, Suhl scored her 13th goal of the season at 51:24 from Kelly before Turchi netted her fifth goal 2:03 later. Suhl's 14th goal just 2:10 later was Rowan's final marker of the game.
 
Hoffman made nine saves in each half to keep the differential in check. It was the 26th time in her career she has reached double figures in saves and the sixth time this season. Carleigh Trivino (61:11) and Hayley Grimm (28:49) combined to collect Rowan's eighth shutout of the season without being challenged.
 
While the injury-depleted Gothic Knights had just one reserve see action, Rowan saw 25 players log time.
 
OF NOTE:
  • Rowan leads the all-time series, 17-0.
  • Brittany Hoffman upped her career saves total to 579.
  • It was NJCU's seventh straight loss; the Knights are winless in their last nine contests (0-8-1).

The Gothic Knights cap their NJAC schedule on Wednesday, October 29 at 4 p.m. at William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ. NJCU's Senior Day game with Yeshiva University, rained out on October 22, is tentatively re-scheduled for November 7.
