Box Score WINTER HAVEN, FL (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University committed six errors which led to eight unearned runs and long-time NCAA Division III Tournament qualifier Saint Joseph's College (Maine) posted a 15-1 win over NJCU on March 10 on the third game of the 2014 spring trip.

The Monks (5-2) went 31-14 a year ago when it won the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship and played three games in the NCAAs. Saint Joe's notched 12 hits and limited the Knights to five singles. NJCU fell to 1-4.

The Monks scored six unearned runs after two outs had been recorded in the second inning and added single runs in the fifth and sixth frames for an 8-1 margin, before tacking on three runs in the seventh and fourth in the eighth. The game was called after eighth innings due to a tournament 10-run rule.

Senior right-hander Nick Whittaker (2-0) threw seven innings of solid baseball, striking out eight versus four walks, allowing one run and four hits over 117 pitches. Senior left-hander Chris Bryant allowed one hit in one hitting of relief.

No Gothic Knight had multiple hits. NJCU scored its lone run in the top of the third on an RBI single by junior first baseman ALEX WEINSTEIN (Colonia, NJ/JFK-Iselin) that scored rookie right fielder DMITRI RUEGER (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck).

SJC's No. 3 hitter, right fielder Alec Lorenc was one of three players with multiple RBIs, finishing with three ribbies and two runs in a 2-for-5 effort, including a triple.

Cleanup hitter and first baseman Nic Lops was 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a double while leadoff hitting shortstop Max McComb reached base five times—three walks and a 2-for-2 hitting effort with a double, RBI and three runs scored.

Also for SJCME, second baseman Zack Graham had two RBIs and a run scored and designated hitter Jameson Collins walked twice and scored three times. Third baseman Taylor Black was 2-for-4 with a run while center fielder Louie Vigars scored twice.

NJCU used three pitchers in the game, but it was starting junior righty KEVIN DEMAURO (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) who was unlucky. In 5.0 innings he allowed seven runs—all unearned—with seven hits, while walking three and fanning two.

In what proved to be a costly two-error second inning, the second error of the frame pushed across the first run before Graham had a two-run single and Lorence drove in two runs with a triple. Lops' two-run double in the seventh extended the lead to 11-1. Four walks and a hit by pitch contributed to the four runs in the eighth.

NJCU faces Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Tuesday, March 11 at 11:30 a.m. at Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL. RPI went 30-15 last year, won the Liberty League championship, and won two games in the NCAA Tournament.
