*** GAME 1: St. Joseph's (LI) 8, NJCU 2 ***
St. Joseph's scored a pair of runs in the third inning before adding five in the fifth inning for a 7-0 lead and posted an 8-2 game one decision.

In defeat, senior  catcher MARISSA BARISO (Hewitt, NJ/West Milford) and senior center fielder CASEY PEREZ (West New York, NJ/Academy of the Holy Angels) each had multiple hits. Bariso batted 2-for-3 with a run, RBI and walk while Perez went 2-for-4 with two steals and a run scored.

Shortstop Samantha Carcano was 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored for the Eagles and first baseman Jen Fazio batted 2-for-3 with a run, RBI and walk. Second baseman Cheyenne Raimondi drove in two RBIs and scored once and third baseman Gianna Gulli walked three times.

Sophomore right-hander Mallory McClafferty evened her record at 2-2, allowing two runs against six singles with a pair of strikeouts and three walks over 100 pitches. Junior left-hander ASHLEY LATUSHKO (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) took the loss (2-7) for NJCU, allowing seven earned runs and 10 hits (nine singles) over 106 pitches.

In the third inning, a single to center by Carcano with two runners on led to an overthrow that permitted the first run to score before an unearned run came in on a sac fly for a 2-0 differential.

But the real damage was done in the fifth when 10 batters came to the plate as SJC scored five times on five hits. Three straight run-producing hits for the guests—a single by Raimondi, a double by Tierney and a single up the middle by McClafferty made it 5-0. Tierney later scored on a wild pitch before an RBI single by right fielder Tara Bernocco pushed across the seventh run.

NJCU got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the fifth as Perez singled, stole second and scored on a single up the middle by Bariso. A groundout by senior shortstop GABRIELLE RIVERA (Teaneck, NJ/Saint Joseph of the Palisades) scored Bariso with the second run. Fazio knocked in the eighth run for the visitors in the top of the seventh, singling to left.

*** GAME 2: St. Joseph's (LI) 14, NJCU 2 (5 innings) ***
In game two, St. Joseph's scored in each of the first five innings, including five unearned runs in the third inning and four more runs in the ninth while limiting NJCU to five hits, in a game that ended after five frames due to the eight-run rule.

Tierney led the Eagles with a 4-for-4 performance, scoring four runs with one RBI—a fourth inning solo homerun. Catcher Melanie Boccio knocked in two runs and scored twice in a 2-for-4 effort and second baseman Megan Leun batted 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Left fielder Lindsey Corriss finished with three RBIs—a bases-clearing three-run double in the third inning.

Also for SJC, Gabrielle Cinquemani, the first baseman, had two RBIs and Nicole Reda, the third baseman, scored twice. Gulli walked twice in the game. Freshman righty Amanda Eremita earned the win (3-1), allowing one earned run (two total) and five hits with three walks.

In defeat, senior second baseman MAXINE KAMINSKI (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) batted 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored. Bariso doubled and reached base twice with one run. Junior righty TAYLOR SETAR (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) made her fourth career start (0-4), allowing three earned runs and four hits with four walks in 2.1 innings before being relieved by Latushko.

The Eagles initially led 2-0 after a two-run double to right center in the first inning by Boccio. NJCU answered in the bottom of the first —back-to-back two-out doubles by Bariso and Kaminski cut the deficit in half before reshman left fielder YAQUELIN IGLESIAS (White Plains, NJ/White Plains)'s infield single put runners on the corners. Iglesias stole second and when the errant throw went into center, Kaminski raced home from third with the tying run.

But SJC responded in the second inning—grabbing a 3-2 margin after Carcano grounded out to drive in Leun who led off with a single.

SJC began to pull away from what was a one-run game when it scored five unearned runs in the third inning, aided by two infield errors. Leading 5-2 after the two errors, Corriss' three-run double extended the lead to 8-2. A solo homer by Tierney with one out in the fourth, a two-out, two-run single and an RBI single by Gulli made it a 12-2 game before the Eagles cemented the win with two more runs in the top of the fifth.

NJCU opens New Jersey Athletic Conference play at Rutgers-Camden on March 31 when it returns to the field.
