CENTERVILLE, MA (NJCUGothicKnights.com)
| The New Jersey City University men's  basketball team has earned its 31st post-season appearance in 32 years with the announcement of the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Tournament championship bracket on Monday afternoon. It is NJCU's 38th season of post-season basketball.

NJCU (14-12), winners of a record six ECAC Metro championships in its history, will seek a seventh title but will be challenged immediately as the No. 8 seeded Gothic Knights will visit top-seeded College of Staten Island (25-3), the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) regular season champions with a 16-0 league mark. The ECAC Quarterfinals are slated for Wednesday, March 5 at 8 p.m.

NJCU, for the second time this season, will travel to Staten Island, NY and the CSI Sports & Recreation Center, having placed third in the College of Staten Island 12th annual Tournament of Heroes on December 28 and 29; NJCU and CSI did not meet.

NJCU was also 14-12 last year when it qualified for the eight-team field as a No. 6 seed and advanced to the semifinals, falling to eventual champion SUNY Old Westbury.

NJCU has faced Staten Island in the post-season five times and won every meeting—3-0 in the ECAC Tournament and twice in the NCAA Tournament. NJCU is 3-0 all-time in all post-season games held in Staten Island—an ECAC and NCAA Tournament win over CSI and an ECAC neutral court decision.

Meanwhile, NJCU will face Staten Island in any game for the first time since a 79-69 win in Jersey City on November 24, 2009. NJCU leads the all-time series, 12-5.

In an up-and-down season, NJCU, picked to finish second in the New Jersey Athletic Conference in the preseason, rallied late and won its final four regular season games to nail down the No. 5 seed in the NJAC Tournament. The Knights have not played since dropping a 79-78 heartbreaker in one overtime in the NJAC Quarterfinals at Kean University on February 22.

The winner of the NJCU/Staten Island game will face the winner of No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology (17-9) and No. 5 New York University (16-9). NJCU defeated Stevens, 62-51, in a neutral court season opener on November 16. NJCU last played NYU in the 2012-13 ECAC Quarterfinals, when it knocked off the Violets for the second time that season. The semifinals will be on Saturday, March 8 at a site and time to be determined after the completion of the quarterfinal round.

The ECAC finals will be held on Sunday, March 9 at the same site as the semifinal rounds. The other half of the bracket includes No. 2 Rutgers-Newark (19-8) hosting defending champion and No. 7 seeded SUNY Old Westbury (15-12) and No. 3 Mount Saint Mary (21-6) hosting No. 6 Kean (14-13). NJCU split two regular season contests with RUN this year and was 0-3 versus Kean. The Knights did not play the other participants in the tournament.

NJCU, Kean and RUN are the three NJAC teams represented in the field. The Skyline Conference is represented by Mount Saint Mary and Old Westbury. CSI (CUNYAC), NYU (University Athletic Association (UAA)) and Stevens (Empire 8) are the lone members of their league in the tournament.
