03-29-14 Marissa Bariso 47
(
West New York, NJ/Academy of the Holy Angels) had two of NJCU's five hits, batting 2-for-3 with a double, two stolen bases, a run scored and RBI. She increased her career hits total to 90 and stolen base mark to 71-for-74, including 53 of her last 54. Also for NJCU, Bariso and Kaminski each walked twice.

Freshman righty Katie Boyd (Woodbury, NJ/West Deptford) took the loss (4-8), allowing three runs (two earned) and five hits with five walks and four strikeouts in 4.2 innings before sophomore righty Jess Cannon (Newton, NJ/Newton) struck out three while retiring all four batters she faced in 1.1 innings of relief.

RUN's best scoring chance came in the second inning when the Raiders had back-to-back singles and runners in scoring position with one out. Freshman center fielder Eleni Lutas (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) hit a deep fly to center that should have scored a run but a perfect strike to the plate from center by Perez kept RUN off the board and a lineout ended the threat. RUN also left two runners on in the third and fourth innings without scoring.

NJCU got all the offense it needed in the fifth. Sophomore first baseman
03-29-14 Maxine Kaminski 24
(Carteret, NJ/Carteret)
was 1-for-2 with a triple and RBI. But she took the loss on the mound (1-9), walking nine against eight hits in 5.1 innings. Latushko pitched the final 0.2 innings, allowing three runs and four hits.

RUN was led by sophomore left fielder Krista Casale (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville), who batted 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs. Lutas was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs and junior designated player Toniann Donde (Shirley, NY/William Floyd) finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a pair of walks.

Also for the Raiders, sophomore right fielder Kelsey Lucas (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored three times in a 2-for-4 showing and senior first baseman Liane Drastal (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) scored twice (1-for-3, 1 RBI). Cannon was the winning pitcher (3-4), allowing three runs and eight hits with two strikeouts.

NJCU jumped on the board in the bottom of the first inning with two outs as Bariso and Kaminski hit back-to-back home runs. Bariso's 21st career shot and third of the season cleared the left center fence before Kaminski unleashed her second career homer and first this year to deep left.

RUN answered with four runs in the second inning to claim a 4-2 lead. The Raiders drew five walks in the inning including three consecutive free passes with the bases loaded as Casale, Donde and senior shortstop Tiara Santi (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) all pushed across runs. An RBI single to left by freshman third baseman Anna Carlson (Jefferson, NJ/Jefferson) knocked in the fourth run before a great tag at the plate by Bariso off a throw from freshman left fielder YAQUELIN IGLESIAS (White Plains, NY/White Plains) gunned down a potential fifth run.

NJCU got a run back in the second when Iglesias led off with a single and Setar tripled off the base of the left center field fence. The ball caromed back into left field but Setar was stranded at third representing the potential tying run.

RUN added to its lead (6-3) in the fifth on a two-out, two-run single to center by Casale before leaving the bases loaded. NJCU had a chance in the fifth when Ely led off with a double into the right field corner but after two fly outs she was called out at second on appeal for leaving early.

But the Raiders put the game away in the sixth. Back-to-back one-out doubles—the second by Drastal—made it 7-3. With two outs and two on after a bunt single by Lucas, a double to left center by Lutas knocked in two runs. RBI singles by Casale and Donde were the fifth and sixth hits of the inning for the Raiders.

NJCU next heads to Little Falls, NJ to face No. 2 ranked Montclair State University (25-1, 10-0 NJAC), winners of 20 straight, on Tuesday, April 15 at 3 p.m.
