Box Score
04-05-14 Nicholas D'Errico 73
(Bayonne, NJ/Saint Peter's Prep
) on the run in center.

In the third, Garcia ripped a deep double over Martucci's head and sped into third with a triple before using his speed to score on a high pop out to shallow right center for a 2-0 cushion. Born made a diving stop at third and doubled a man off second to end the inning.

In the bottom of the third NJCU had two men on after a walk and single before a ground ball double play accounted for two outs. But Born rolled a single up the middle to knock in freshman designated hitter ZACH BUCHHOLZ (Colonia, NJ/JFK-Iselin) who had walked and moved to third on the double play, making it 2-1.

In the top of the fourth, Peschiani led off with a double deep to center. After a single, Kelly lined out on a diving catch by freshman left fielder ERIC GIORDANO (Metuchen, NJ/JFK-Iselin), who threw to third where Born stepped on the bag, retiring Peschiani who left early on the tag up. In the fifth, Venturino reached when his liner to left center was dropped and moved to third on the second error of the inning before Fellin was able to get out of the defensive-induced jam.

After escaping several threats, the turning point in the game came in the bottom of the fifth and top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the fifth, D'Errico singled off the diving third baseman's glove on the left field line and Weinstein ripped a single off the glove of the pitcher to put two men on. Giordano slipped a grounder up the middle and NJCU loaded the bags before Larson struck out Martucci on a 3-2 high fastball.

Ramapo would convert its defensive stop into a three-run inning to build a 5-1 advantage. Kelly and Shields had back-to-back doubles with one out to make it a 3-1 game before Garcia dropped an RBI double into right center for a 4-1 edge. Osterman lined out to the gap for a sac fly to score Garcia for a fifth run. Peschiani led off the seventh with a triple to deep center, scoring on a sac fly by Scott Paulus for a 6-1 lead. NJCU got a run back in the bottom of the seventh as D'Errico walked, advanced on a sacrifice, stole third and scored on an RBI groundout by Born.

But a four-run deficit quickly becoming an almost unattainable rally when RCNJ scored four in the top of the eighth. An RBI double by Werr added to the lead before Werr came around with an eighth run on a two-out error. Kelly lined a one-hopper that ate up the shortstop for a two-run single and a 10-2 final differential.

NJCU plays two final NJAC Tournament games on Saturday, April 26 at 11:30 a.m. against Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ before finishing the year with six non-conference games.
