MASPETH, NY (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | The
New Jersey City University men's soccer team has not allowed more than two goals in a game all season. But the Gothic Knights inability to put away scoring chances—just four goals in six games—coupled with a red card midway through the first half—set the stage for a 1-0 non-conference loss to Baruch College on September 10 at the Met Oval.
NJCU (1-3-2) lost its second game by a 1-0 margin this season and was shutout for the fourth time in six games. Meanwhile, the Knights lost to Baruch (3-2-0) for the first time in four all-time meetings.
For the first time this season, the Gothic Knights did not reach overtime, snapping what was believed to be an NCAA-record five consecutive overtimes to open the season. NJCU was one overtime shy of the known NCAA mark of six consecutive overtimes by Division I San Diego State in 2009.
Baruch outshot NJCU 15-7, including 6-1 in the first half and scored the only goal of the game at the 8:52 mark when Kevin Romero struck a free kick from outside the box into the upper right side.

Third-year head coach Patrick Snyder said: "We need to keep working to improve each day heading towards the start of conference play in two weeks. Attacking is an area we need to improve and we will continue working on it until we get more consistent threats in our opponents' defensive third."
NJCU looks to improve its offensive production in another non-conference game on Saturday, September 13 (3:30 p.m.) when it faces Maritime College in Throggs Neck, NY.
