NJCU (2-1-1) suffered its first loss of the season. It was the first-ever meeting between NJCU and Brooklyn (1-4). The Bulldogs are in their third-year of varsity competition and in their second year in 2013 went 15-4, won the CUNYAC title and reached the NCAA Tournament. However, against very challenging regional competition, Brooklyn had lost its first four games of the 2014 campaign.
Brooklyn outshot NJCU, 9-6, including 4-1 in the second half, and was called for 11 fouls and nine offsides. BC's
Isabelle Lalami,
Stefany Ibarra and
Bergelie Louis each scored once and tallied an assist for the hosts.
The Bulldogs went ahead at the 37:35 mark as
Lalami scored BC's first goal of the season dribbling through the defense off an assist from
Jordan Kerwin. With NJCU pressing forward, Brooklyn countered in the 70
th minute as
Ibarra put the Bulldogs ahead two markers off a double assist from
Louis and
Lalami and in the 78
th minute,
Louis finished a 1-on-1 in the box set up by an
Ibarra through ball.
Senior goalkeeper and three-time All-New Jersey Athletic Conference selection
Brittany Hoffman (
McMurray, PA/Peters Township) made three saves in defeat for NJCU.
Rebecca Harmata stopped all three NJCU shots on target in a shutout effort.
All four NJCU shots (three on goal) were credited to junior midfielder and co-captain
Amanda Filippone (Kenilworth, NJ/David Brearley).
NJCU was playing without its starting center midfielder, junior
Kaydee Murphy (Bayonne, NJ/Holy Family Academy), who sat out with an injury.
The Gothic Knights next hit the pitch on Wednesday, September 17 at 4 p.m. in a non-conference tilt at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY.
