New Jersey City University, the Gothic Knights had only played one game to a 0-0 draw. On October 29, NJCU did it for the second time this season. Senior goalkeeper
Cassie Lubonski (Edison, NJ/Edison) stopped six William Paterson University shots in her final collegiate game and NJCU played a 0-0 double overtime result in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest for the first time in school history in the final game of the season for both schools played at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
NJCU (4-11-2, 0-8-1 NJAC) snapped a 33-game losing streak in conference play while sending the Pioneers (4-9-4, 1-5-3), who were played their second straight 0-0 draw, to their third tie in league play this year. WP was coming off a 0-0 draw with #7/12 ranked The College of New Jersey in its last game on October 24. It was the first-ever tie in 20 meetings between NJCU and William Paterson.
Lubonski, the NJAC leader in saves, notched her fourth shutout of the season. Senior keeper
Kat Clint (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) made two stops for the Pioneers for her fourth shutout and the club's fifth. WP did not allow a goal in its final three games of the season.
The best scoring chance for either team came for NJCU in the 78th minute when freshman forward
Katherin Merino (Harrison, NJ/Harrison) slipped a ball from 30 yards through the left side of the WP back line, allowing freshman forward
Camila Nuñez (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) to go in on a 1-on-1 breakaway before missing a shot from the near left side of the box wide from 12 yards.
Katherin Merino had a game-high seven shots.In an uneventful first half, each team had only two shots apiece in the first 28 minutes. WP held a 6-2 edge in shots in the period and
Lubonski made four saves in the half. NJCU outshot WP, 6-5, in the second half and at the end of regulation, WP had an 11-8 edge in shots. Each team had three shots in overtime with NJCU owning a 3-2 edge in the first OT.

Catarina Teodosio (Newark, NJ/East Side) and
Madison Castellanos (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) and freshman
Chelsea Uribe (East Newark, NJ/Harrison) helped shut down WP's offense.
WP finished with a 14-11 margin in shots and 5-1 on corner kicks.
Merino had a game-high seven shots for NJCU. Junior midfielder
Sidney Gabrich (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional) had five for WP (three on goal).
OF NOTE:
- William Paterson leads the all-time series, 17-2-1.
- NJCU's last non-loss in NJAC play came on September 19, 2012 in a 3-2 home win over Ramapo.
- NJCU was playing its third overtime game of the season. NJCU is 8-13-14 all-time in overtime (35 games) in the 23-year history of the program.
- NJCU's only other 0-0 draws in school history were September 9, 2015 at Cedar Crest and October 11, 1997 in Jersey City against St. Thomas Aquinas College.
- NJCU was shutout in six consecutive games to close the season—all conference games—and ended the year with an active 566:18 scoreless drought, dating to its last goal against John Jay at 83:42 of its game on October 7.
- William Paterson was playing its seventh overtime game of the season (fifth in double overtime).
- The game was a make-up of an October 28 rainout postponement.
