PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) |  Senior third/first baseman
Alex Weinstein (Colonia, N.J./JFK-Iselin) is making a habit out of breaking generation-old single-season school records in the final weeks of his collegiate baseball career. The All-New Jersey Athletic Conference selection knocked in three RBIs, batting 2-for-4 with a home run to break a 27-year-old school record for RBIs in a season with 49, as the
New Jersey City University baseball team defeated St. Joseph's College (LI), 8-5, under the lights on April 30.
NJCU (16-20) won its third straight game. With seven RBIs in the last two games,
Weinstein, who earlier this month broke a 22-year-old school record for doubles (17), and now has 20 two-base hits, became the program's single-season run-producing leader, breaking the RBI mark of 48 by Hall-of-Famer
Rich Levens in 1988.
A day after breaking NJCU's career hits record, senior shortstop
Michael Martucci (Bayonne, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) upped his record to 198, batting 1-for-3 with two walks, two RBIs and a run, extending his consecutive games on-base streak to 33.
NJCU, which scored three times in the second and ninth innings, led 5-1 at the seventh inning stretch and 8-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth. St. Joseph's (19-15), held a 14-11 margin in hits.
A day after going 5-for-5, sophomore second baseman
Nick Ruscingno (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) continued to swing the bat in the final week of the season, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a walk and run scored.
