Ramapo Overpowers #NJCUWVB

MAHWAH, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Ramapo College was simply overpowering as the Roadrunners posted a 43-12 differential in kills and hit .422 as a team in a 3-0 sweep (25-7, 25-10, 25-12) of the New Jersey City University women's volleyball team in a New Jersey Athletic Conference opener on September 22 at the Bradley Center.

Ramapo (6-3, 1-0 NJAC) chalked up 53 points in the match (13 for NJCU) and limited the Gothic Knights (5-4, 0-2 NJAC) to a -.082 attack percentage. The Roadrunners never trailed in any of the three sets, claiming a 13-2 lead in game one (10-0 run), before scoring seven in a row in the middle of the second period to go from 13-8 to 20-8. RCNJ had a similar streak in the center of game three to sweep the meeting.

NJCU had no answer for arguably the best player in the league, as Ramapo's Larysa Iwaskiw, this week's NJAC Player of the Week, hit an incredible .800 on attack with 12 kills in 15 attempts without committing an error in only two sets.. She was an eight-time NJAC Rookie of the Week last year when she easily won the league's Rookie of the Year.

Emily Guzman added nine kills and hit at .333 (9-1-24). Kelly Nichirco added seven kills without an error (11 attempts) and hit a colossal .636 in two games of action.

Cathryn Smart finished with a .455 attack percentage and six kills (6-1-11), adding three blocks (two solo). Setter Nicole Herrmann finished with 28 assists and two service aces for RCNJ.

Ramapo had 16 kills in game one when hit .536 as a team (16-1-28) and 15 more winners in the second set at a .414 clip (15-3-29).

NJCU junior middle hitter Elyssa Magee (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) had her squad's best effort, hitting .231 with four kills and senior Valerie Ballestas (North Bergen, NJ/Weehawken) tallied seven digs.
