WAYNE, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | William Paterson University scored the final 13 points of the first quarter and used an 20-0 run between the first and second quarters to seize control as the Pioneers upended the
New Jersey City University women's basketball team, 60-47, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on January 27 at the WPU Rec Center.

William Paterson, fourth in the conference standings, won its third in a row to up its mark to 11-7 (7-4 NJAC). NJCU is winless in the league this season (1-16, 0-11 NJAC, Lost 14).

William Paterson led by as many as 15 in the first half, held a 33-19 margin at halftime, and a 52-30 (+22) advantage after three quarters. Â The 22-point differential was WP's largest of the game on four occasions, including 60-38 with 5:08 to go.

NJCU, which outscored WP 17-8 in the fourth quarter, did manage to hold the Pioneers scoreless in the final five minutes and netted the final nine points of the game.

But the game changed midway through the first quarter. With NJCU up 9-4 with 5:12 on the quarter clock, the Gothic Knights were held scoreless for the next 8:28 of play between the two periods as William Paterson turned that early deficit into a 17-9 advantage at the end of the opening stanza and ultimately led 24-9 at the 7:07 mark of the second quarter.

Alex Milne, who scored a game-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, adding seven rebounds and five steals, scored seven during the 20-0 outburst while
Nikole Williams scored six of her 13 points (5-8 FG, 14 minutes) during the streak.
Tori Woetzel was 3-of-3 from the field and had four of her seven points to spark the run.
Brittany Harden finished with eight rebounds, six points and four assists.

The loss spoiled a terrific effort for sophomore center
Sharaunda Fiedtkou (West Orange, NJ/Bayonne). She scored a career-high 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting (6-7 free throws) and produced her first career double-double by grabbing 12 rebounds (six offensive) with four steals and two blocks in 36 minutes.

Senior forward
Deseree Johnson (Red Bank, NJ/Monmouth Regional) moved closer to the three-point century mark for her career, knocking down three triples to finish with 13 points and eight rebounds in a full 40 minutes of action. She now has 94 threes in 86 career games. Junior guard
Jazz Randall (Parsippany, NJ/West Orange) had nine points, five boards and three steals.

What's Next?:On Saturday, January 30 at 2 p.m. at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (Coach Charlie Brown Court) , NJCU will host NJAC-leading Rowan University. The Profs (17-2, 11-1 NJAC, won 2) fell out of the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll this week but still received 34 points (28th overall listing).
