GALLOWAY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Senior center midfielder
Kaydee Murphy (Bayonne, N.J./Holy Family Academy) scored for the second consecutive game but the
New Jersey City University women's soccer fell at Stockton University, 7-1, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on October 22.
Stockton improved to 10-6-2 (4-3-1 NJAC) and clinched a berth in the conference tournament with the win. NJCU fell below .500 with the loss (6-7-1, 2-6-0 NJAC) and was eliminated from NJAC Tournament contention.
NJCU was without outstanding junior goalkeeper
Paula Viana (Elizabeth, N.J./Hamilton Prep Academy) who missed her first game all year and without her, Stockton scored on five of its 10 first half shots and seven of 17 in the game as the Ospreys outshot NJCU, 17-5. Stockton led 5-0 at halftime.
Murphy, who exceeded 5,000 career minutes in the game, had not scored in 62 career games entering the week yet tallied a goal for the second straight game when she tapped in a ball off the foot of freshman midfielder/forward
Mallensy Vargas (North Bergen, N.J./Memorial), who picked up her third assist and 27th point of the season.
Stockton got all the offense it needed when
Jill DiBlasi scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season in a span of 1:39 in the fifth and sixth minute. She later added an assist on the fourth goal for a five-point effort.
Adrianna Boucher had two assists for the hosts.
Lindsey Thomas had her seventh goal of the season for Stockton.
Christina Denney,
Dana Scillieri and
Alexa Farma each scored after an own goal in the 15th minute.
Sara Beenders and
Melanie Iatarola had single assists for Stockton.
Scillieri scored 23 seconds after
Murphy before Stockton added its seventh goal 52 seconds later.
With
Viana out, freshman
Joelle Paris (Bayonne, N.J./County Prep), normally a reserve forward, made four saves in her first collegiate appearance in net. Stockton split its goalkeeping time with
Nicole Pallante and
Dionia Henderson each playing 45 minutes; neither Osprey keeper made a save.
OF NOTE:
- Series: Stockton leads, 24-0.
