JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | As part of the ongoing community outreach efforts by the
New Jersey City University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, it is conducting a 'Gifts from the Gothics' toy and gift drive for local children in conjunction with its home doubleheader on Saturday, December 17, beginning at 1 p.m.
All fans who bring an unwrapped gift for a child ages 5-10 will be admitted to the doubleheader for free while helping improve the holiday season for a local boy or girl.
Additionally, all athletics programs at NJCU have committed $100 per team to the initiative.
In the final home doubleheader of the 2016 portion of the schedule, the NJCU women will play SUNY Old Westbury at 1 p.m. Meanwhile, in a marquee regional non-conference game, the 8-1 men's basketball team, currently listed No. 26 in the nation, will host high-scoring Albertus Magnus.
The initiative, which is part of the department's new 'Spectator and Fan Engagement' (S.A.F.E.) program, will see NJCU teaming up with Jersey City's Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Gothic Knight staff members delivering the gifts to the children prior to the holidays.
