JERSEY CITY, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Freshman right-hander Christina Mezey (Jersey City, NJ/Saint Dominic Academy) lost a perfect game in the top of the fifth and the final 10 outs of the game were all strikeouts as she fanned 12 when the New Jersey City University softball team shutout Lehman College, 11-0 in five innings in game two of a non-conference doubleheader on March 24. In game one of the home-opening twinbill at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex, NJCU breezed past Lehman, 13-2, also in five innings.
 
With the two wins, NJCU improves to 9-5 and wins for the fifth and sixth consecutive games to open the northern portion of its schedule. The 9-5 ledger is NJCU's best 14-game start to a season since opening the 2001 campaign at 15-5.

The Gothic Knights had 24 hits in the 10 total innings. Freshman catcher Hannah Gavin (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) was a combined 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBIs while junior first baseman Brittany Paulikas (Fords, NJ/John F. Kennedy Memorial) scored five times with four RBIs in a combined 3-for-5, including a three-run homer.
