Six-Run Second Enough as FDU-Florham Downs NJCU, 12-5

MADISON, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | For the second straight game, a big second inning by the opposition was the difference in the outcome. FDU-Florham scored six runs in the second inning and defeated the New Jersey City University baseball team, 12-5, in a non-conference makeup game on April 13.

FDU-Florham (8-14-1) accumulated 19 hits and led 7-0 before later adding four runs in the bottom of the seventh for some necessary insurance after NJCU (13-9, lost 3) began chipping away with three runs in the fifth and another in the seventh. The big second inning for FDU came after Rutgers-Newark scored seven runs in the second inning and had 21 total hits on April 11 in the last outing.

Freshman shortstop/pitcher Nick LoGatto (Helmetta, N.J./Spotswood) was the lone Gothic Knight with multiple hits, batting 2-for-3 with two runs. NJCU used seven pitchers in the loss.

In a predetermined rotation for FDU, Brad Norris won (3-0), allowing one hit with one strikeout in a 2.0 inning starting role. The Devils followed with six other pitchers—none for more than two innings.

Catcher Kevin Sinclair drove in four runs, batting 4-for-5 with two runs in a leadoff role. Frankie Tassielli, the center fielder, was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and one run.

Left fielder Ben Thompson batted 3-for-5 with two runs and second baseman Joseph Breymeier scored twice (2-for-3). Vinny Bonaccorso had two RBIs and Joseph Bonaccorso finished with two runs scored.
