Kevin Campos (Cliffside Park, N.J./Cliffside Park) scored the first three goals of his collegiate career, sophomore forward
Omar Ventura (
Fairview, N.J./Cliffside Park) netted his eighth and ninth goals and added an assist, and the
New Jersey City University men's soccer team dominated York College (NY), 8-0, in a non-conference game under the Aviator Field lights on September 19.
With its fifth shutout in nine games, NJCU improved to 8-1-0 on the season—its best record after nine games since starting the 2001 season at 12-1-0. Meanwhile, 23 different players saw considerable time for NJCU, including all three goalkeepers, as the Gothic Knights led 5-0 at halftime when it outshot York (0-6-0) 13-0. NJCU finished with a 23-2 margin in shots.
Sophomore forward
Theo Sanoh (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) scored his seventh goal of the season—the third consecutive game he's scored—and contributed two assists.
Sophomore midfielder
Edwin Carbajal (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) was credited with the game-winning goal when he netted his second score of the season just 6:14 into the game before
Campos made it 2-0 just 65 seconds later.
Freshman forward
Thomas Loureiro (Newark, N.J./Science Park) saw the first action of his collegiate career, and made it count, scoring the eighth goal to cap the score.
Omar Ventura scored his eighth and ninth goals of the season.
Freshman midfielder
Jose Salazar (Jersey City, N.J./Union City) got in the assist column for the third time in four games, notching two in the win. Senior midfielder
Davauni Brown (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) added his sixth assist of the season.
Junior
Luis Cruz (Princeton, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro South) added his third assist of the season and freshman forward
Erick Nascimento (Miami, Fla./Alonzo Tracy Mourning) chipped in his second assist. Senior midfielder
Juan Arango (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) registered his first career helper on the final goal as the Knights achieved a double assist.
Freshman goalkeeper
Adam Cassidy (Jersey City, N.J./County Prep) played the first 14:57 for NJCU, earning the win before leaving with a 3-0 lead. Freshmen
Danny Montehermoso (Union City, N.J./Union City) and
Steven Pires (Hillside, N.J./Hillside) each saw their first collegiate action in net.
Montehermoso played 40:11 before
Pires entered and played the final 34:52.
Pires faced the only two Cardinals shots and made one save.
George Espinoza made three saves for York.
NJCU scored all five first half goals in the first 22 minutes with tallies in the seventh, eighth, 14th, 19th and 22nd minutes. It added two goals in four minutes in the 56th and 60th frames before adding one more in the 73rd. All eight NJCU goals were assisted.

- NJCU posted its 219th shutout in school history. NJCU is 202-0-17 all-time when the opponent doesn't score.
- With five shutouts, NJCU has its most shutouts in a season since posting six shutouts in 2010.
- With five shutouts in its first nine games, NJCU has posted the most shutouts through after nine games since also posting five in that span in 2005.
- NJCU is receiving votes in the NSCAA/NCAA Division III South Atlantic Region for the first time since 2008.
WHAT'S NEXT?
NJCU continues what has become a great non-conference rivalry when it hosts New York University (3-2-1) on Wednesday, September 21 (4 p.m.) at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field. NYU won last year's September 19 meeting in Riverdale, NY, 1-0, in overtime. The last six meetings between the schools have all been decided by one goal or less and two of the last three have went to overtime. NYU leads the all-time series, 7-2-1, including 1-0 in 2014 and 2015. NJCU and NYU will be playing for the fifth consecutive year since renewing the rivalry in 2012.
