JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Rowan University looked impressive in sets two and three as the Profs defeated the
New Jersey City University women's volleyball team, 3-0 (25-16, 25-6, 25-9) in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on October 10 at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (Coach Charlie Brown Court).
Rowan (11-12, 3-3 NJAC), which has had the upper hand in the series for the last decade, improved to .500 in the league. NJCU, which had won three of its last four matches, falls to .500 overall (10-10, 1-5 NJAC). Rowan never trailed in any of the three sets and was tied just twice.
After struggling in game one, Rowan hit over .500 in the second and third sets—a .500 hitting percentage in game two with no attack errors (10-0-20) and a 15-kill, .542 percentage in the final set (15-2-24). Rowan had a 71 percent sideout rate in game two (5-7) and a notable 8-for-9 in game three—an 88 percent sideout success.
Sophomore outside hitter
Megan Jacobi (Nazareth, Pa.) led all players with 10 kills and a .412 percentage (10-3-17), adding three blocks and senior middle hitter
Gina Kisley (Paramus, N.J.) was a perfect 6-for-6 for a 1.000 clip in two games, adding two blocks. Freshman outside hitter
Taylor Modica (Newark, Del.) collected eight kills, two aces and hit .294.
Also for Rowan, sophomore setter
Katelyn Paxson (Long Valley, N.J.) collected 17 assists, six digs and three aces and freshman setter
Tori Mock (Chadds Ford, Pa.) contributed nine assists and five aces.
Freshman middle hitter
Leah Seickendick (Hoboken, NJ/Hudson Catholic) was the top player for NJCU with four blocks and junior opposite
Naiomi Cintron (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) had three blocks in two sets of action. Senior setter
Rachel McIntyre (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) had 10 assists.
NJCU had four blocks in game one but was aced seven times and couldn't bounce back after falling behind, 9-3. NJCU got within two points (9-7) but never closer and Rowan scored six of the final eight points in game one.
Rowan jumped out to a 9-1 lead in game two, extended it to 19-2, and held NJCU to its lowest points total in a set since Stockton limited the Knights to five points in game three on October 18, 2016. The Profs jumped ahead 6-1 in game three, increased it to 10-2 and 18-4 before sealing the win.

- Series: 33rd meeting; Rowan leads, 29-3, and has won the last 10 meetings.
- NJCU was without starting outside hitter Amber O'Donnell (East Newark, NJ/Harrison) due to injury.

- NJCU will face the College of Saint Elizabeth for the second time this season when it visits the Eagles in a non-conference tilt on Thursday, October 12 at 7 p.m. in Morristown, N.J. NJCU and CSE also played in the season-opening match on September 1 on a neutral court at the Scranton Invitational. NJCU won that match, 3-1 (20-25, 27-25, 25-17, 25-16). It will be the 39th meeting in a series NJCU leads all-time, 27-11.
