Theo Sanoh (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) made it a one-goal game with 35 minutes to play but the
New Jersey City University men's soccer team couldn't get the equalizer and defending New Jersey Athletic Conference champion Montclair State upended NJCU, 3-1, in NJAC action on October 25 at the Robert L. McNulty Soccer Field.

Montclair State (12-6-1, 5-4-0 NJAC) led 2-0 at halftime on the power of goals in the 19th and 37th minutes and with the Knights pressing late, seeking a tying goal, the Red Hawks cemented the win with a third goal with 33 seconds remaining. Montclair clinched the No. 3 seed and a home game in the NJAC Tournament with the win. NJCU's 59th season of intercollegiate soccer ends at 4-12-2 (0-8-1 NJAC), losing its final 10 games.

Prior to the game, NJCU honored seniors
Luis Cruz (Princeton, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) and
Gabriel Luzbet (East Newark, NJ/Harrison) on Senior Day 2017.
Cruz started his 54th consecutive game and finished his career with 5,957 minutes played—third most of any player in program history and second most by a field player. He nearly scored twice in the game—a vicious third-minute shot that was saved and a 13th minute header off the crossbar.

Jonathan Franco (South River, NJ/South River) contributing his second assist of the season. Rookie goalkeeper
Eric Lopes Silva (Newark, NJ/Newark East Side) made seven saves in defeat.

Mike Taranto (Wyckoff, N.J.) scored the MSU goals.
