With Two Chances to Win in Last At Bat, NJCU Splits with Ursinus

LEESBURG, Fla. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University and Ursinus College played two entertaining one-run games and the Gothic Knights had chances to win in their final at bat in both outings. NJCU had the tying run on third in game one but couldn't push it across and fell to the Bears, 4-3. In game two, the Knights were down 5-4 entering the bottom of the seventh, before they loaded the bases and tied the game. Senior right fielder Joe Coutinho (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) waited out a full count for a walkoff walk as NJCU edged Ursinus, 6-5. Both games of the doubleheader were played at Pat Thomas Stadium (Buddy Lowe Field) as part of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

After two one-run losses on the trip, NJCU (1-3) won for the first time. Ursinus has played four one-run games, losing for the first time in game two to fall to 3-1. Both games were seven innings.

Freshman designated hitter Lenin Gomez (Edison, N.J./Edison) walked four times and had three RBIs in the doubleheader and senior second baseman Jeff Reinecke (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) was a combined 4-for-7.
