Zicaro, Kafer Combine for Shutout of Stockton; Gomez, Berardi Homer in Game Two One-Run Loss

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Sophomore left-handed pitchers Anthony Zicaro (Linden, NJ/Linden) (Linden, N.J./Linden) and Kyle Kafer (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown) combined for eight strikeouts in an 4-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over Stockton University in game one of a doubleheader on April 15 at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex. In game two, freshman designated hitter Lenin Gomez (Edison, NJ/Edison) (Edison, N.J./Edison) and junior first baseman Dan Berardi (Bridgewater, NJ/Middlesex) (Bridgewater, N.J./Middlesex) each hit home runs but NJCU couldn't tie it up after trailing 4-0 and fell, 5-4.

With the doubleheader split, NJCU is 10-14 overall and 2-8 in the NJAC. Stockton (12-14, 4-6 NJAC) snapped a five-game losing streak with the game two outcome. The Ospreys only scored in two of 18 total innings in the doubleheader.

Gomez was a combined 4-for-7 with five RBIs, one run, and a three-run home run—the first of his collegiate career—in the two games. Berardi was a combined 4-for-8 with two runs and a solo homer in the twinbill.
