GALLOWAY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University was shutout for the first time this year in game one and was swept by Stockton University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference road doubleheader on April 8, 9-0 in five innings and 6-1 in the nightcap.

Stockton pitching did not allow an earned run not walk a batter in the two games, as the Ospreys improved to 12-12 overall and 2-4 in the NJAC. The Gothic Knights fell back to .500 overall at 7-7 (0-4 NJAC).

Game 1: Stockton 9, New Jersey City 0
Sophomore
Victoria Torp (West Milford, N.J.) tossed a five-inning four-hit shutout, striking out two to improve to 6-6 overall. Stockton led 2-0 with single runs in the first and third before pulling away with five runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

Stockton had 10 hits and homered twice, with the decisive blast a fourth-inning pinch-hit grand slam homer to left by sophomore
Alexis Dunphy (Hainesport, N.J.). Freshman first baseman
Alexandra Cosenzo (East Hanover, N.J.) had a two-run homer to center in the fifth. She finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs.

Sophomore center fielder
Carli Shaw (Bordentown, N.J.) scored three times in a 2-for-3 outing (one walk). She had four stolen bases in the doubleheader with two in each game. Junior designated player
Danielle Lugo (Vineland, N.J.) and sophomore third baseman
Casey Schieda (Monroe Township, N.J) each walked twice;
Lugo scored a pair of runs.

Christina Mezey (Jersey City, NJ/Saint Dominic Academy) (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy) took the loss for NJCU (4-4).

Game 2: Stockton 6, New Jersey City 1
The Ospreys scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and overcame three errors in the five-run margin. Junior
Hannah Bibeault (Hopatcong, N.J.) (6-6) struck out nine without a walk while allowing one unearned run and six hits.

Cosenzo had an RBI double in the first,
Lugo followed with a sacrifice fly and senior
Holly Arentowicz (Roxbury, N.J.) uncorked a solo homer—her second of the season.
Cosenzo, who was a combined 5-for-8 with five RBIs and three runs in the doubleheader, was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run in the nightcap.

Shaw walked twice and scored two times (1-for-2). Junior designated player
Alexa Massa (Moorestown, N.J.) and junior third baseman
Daniela Marinaro (Cedar Grove, N.J.) each had two hits.

Senior right fielder/shortstop
Brianna Rosario (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) was the lone Gothic Knight with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with one RBI when NJCU got on the board in the fifth inning to draw within 4-1. Stockton scored two insurance runs in the sixth.
Mezey started again (4-5) and was the pitcher of record for the Knights before being relieved by senior first baseman/right-handed pitcher
Brittany Paulikas (Fords, NJ/JFK-Iselin) (Ford, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial), who tossed the final five innings.
