New Jersey City University got back into the win column with a balanced attack as the Gothic Knights rolled past York College (NY), 3-0 (25-11, 25-6, 25-19) in a non-conference match on October 12 at the York College Gym.

NJCU (8-14) had 23 kills and 11 aces and forced the Cardinals (0-17) into a poor attack percentage. York had just 11 kills and committed 24 attack errors, hitting -.217 in the process.

Seven different Gothic Knights had kills. Senior outside hitter
Amber O'Donnell (East Newark, NJ/Harrison) put away six kills and hit .455 (6-1-11) in just two sets of action and senior middle hitter
Naiomi Cintron (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) also had six kills while hitting .400 (6-2-10). Senior setter
Shaylah Ware (Newark, NJ/Science Park) delivered 19 assists. Freshman outside hitter
Karina Rosado (Linden, NJ/Linden) added eight digs and four service aces.

No player on York's roster had more than four kills. The Cardinals had just a 28 percent sideout rate (21-74) in the match.

NJCU never trailed in game one, opening an early 9-4 lead. The Knights were never challenged and scored the final seven points of the set, capped by back-to-back aces by senior libero
Georgina Rayo (Jersey City, NJ/McNair Academic) and a solo block by
Cintron.

The Knights actually were behind 2-1 in the second set before igniting, unleashing an 11-0 run to seize a 12-2 advantage.
O'Donnell was responsible for three of NJCU's five kills during the tear. After York scored a pair to make it 14-5, NJCU again reeled off a sizeable outburst—this time a 10-0 run to seize a 24-5 margin.
Cintron had three kills during the set. The six points by York were the fewest by an NJCU opponent this year.

With the Cardinals ahead 16-15 midway through the third set, NJCU put their foot on the gas, scoring the next five points and nine out of 10 points, to claim a 24-17 lead. York committed seven errors during the final streak. Â
