PURCHASE, N.Y. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Multiple lightning delays caused an eventual halting of a non-conference men's soccer matchup between
New Jersey City University (5-5-0) and
Manhattanville College (7-3-0) on October 2.
Â
The two sides began play at 6:30 p.m. but they got less than one half of actual game play in before the lightning arrived and the game was halted early in the 40th minute (39:13).
Â
Over an hour later, it was officially decided the game could not be finished because of the ongoing lightning in the area. NCAA rules dictate that 70 minutes are required for a game to be official.
Â
With the postponement of the game, NJCU and Manhattanville will discuss rescheduling the contest at a later date and that discussion will also include whether the match would pick up from where it left off or begin as a fresh contest.
Â
As such, the stats are not official, but freshman forward
Johnny Arauz (Brentwood, N.Y.) will want the stats to count, as he put the Valiants ahead in the 17th minute, his (potential) first goal of the season, assisted by freshman midfielder
Kendall Davis (Bound Brook, N.J.). The two teams had a matching nine shots, with Manhattanville having a slight 4-3 edge in terms of shots on goal.
