JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Rowan University outscored the
New Jersey City University women's basketball team, 35-8 in the first quarter and never looked back as it defeated the Gothic Knights, 93-31, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on February 3 inside the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center ('Coach Charlie Brown Court').

Rowan (12-9, 9-6 NJAC) shot 55.1 percent (38-69) on the night as its bench outscored the NJCU (0-18, 0-15 NJAC) reserves, 33-2 and held a 52-4 points in the paint advantage. NJCU shot 10-of-58 overall.

Junior point guard
Jesenia Montalvo (Hillside, NJ/Bayonne) scored 13 points and forced five steals while playing the entire game. Freshman center
Gianna Benacquista (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) finished the game with 10 points, eight rebounds (six defensive) and three steals in 33 minutes of play, while sophomore center
Melissa Etienne (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) secured eight rebounds.

Three players scored in double figures for the Profs as senior center
April Szymczyk (Jackson, N.J.) finished with a game-high 18 points on 90 percent, 9-of-10 shooting from the floor in 15 minutes of play
. In 20 minutes of action, junior guard
Olivia Rulon (Cape May Court House, N.J.) produced a double-double with 11 rebounds (10 defensive) and 11 points (4-6 FG, 3-4 3FG), while senior guard
Summer Crilley (Galloway, N.J.) shot 6-of-11 from the floor to finish with 15 points and added six dimes and five rebounds (four defensive) in 20 minutes on the court.

Alex Raring (Linwood, N.J.) chipped in nine points (3-5 FG) and three steals in 17 minutes. Sophomore guard
Samantha Tello (Elmwood Park, N.J.) earned five helpers. All 14 women on the roster played at least nine minutes and none saw more than 20 minutes.

NJCU travels to nationally #17/20 ranked Montclair State on Wednesday, February 7 (6 p.m.). It will be the 63rd meeting between the schools. The Red Hawks lead the all-time series, 59-3 and has won the last 28 meetings since February 13, 2002. The first meeting of the season between the teams was cancelled on January 3. NJCU has never won a game in Montclair, N.J.
