Julie Squeo (Carlstadt, NJ/Becton Regional) became the 14th member of the
New Jersey City University softball 100-hit club but her Gothic Knights dropped a non-conference doubleheader to the College of New Rochelle, 6-4 and 11-7 on April 12 at Flowers Park.

Squeo reached the milestone with a two-out RBI single to left field in the top of the third inning. She became the first Gothic Knight to reach the 100-hit plateau since
Marissa Bariso in 2014.

New Rochelle improved to 15-7 and 13-3 at home, winning its ninth and 10th consecutive games. NJCU fell to 4-20.

GAME 1: New Rochelle 6, New Jersey City 4
NJCU led 2-0 and outhit the Blue Angels 8-6 before New Rochelle tied the game in the bottom of the third and scored four times in the sixth to prevail, 6-4. NJCU scored twice in the top of the seventh on a two-run double by junior third baseman
Hannah Gavin (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown), but saw its rally fall short.

Gavin finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and freshman shortstop
Dayanara Flores (Jersey City, NJ/Hudson Catholic via M.E.T.S. Charter) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Sophomore shortstop
Samantha Gutierrez (Fullerton, Calif.) was 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI in a leadoff role for CNR, tallying a double and triple and two steals. Senior left fielder
Lyndsey Edwards (Baltimore, Md.) scored twice.

Junior right-handed pitcher
Christina Mezey (Jersey City, NJ/Saint Dominic Academy) struck out five in the loss, allowing three earned runs and six hits. Junior pitcher
Victoria Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) was the winner for CNR, allowing four runs and eight hits with a K and two walks.

After NJCU scored on an error in the second,
Gavin made it 2-0 with an RBI single in the third. CNR sophomore center fielder
Victoria Holmes (Franklin, Va.) doubled in a run in the third before CNR tied it on a sacrifice fly.

The Blue Angels went ahead for good in the sixth with RBI triples by freshman first baseman
Sienna Stockton (White Plains, N.Y.) and
Gutierrez. The two other runs were credited on an error and a wild pitch.

GAME 2: New Rochelle 11, New Jersey City 7
NJCU led 3-0 and 6-2 after the top of the fourth. But CNR scored five runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to pull away with an 11-7 lead. NJCU committed seven errors in the game and the Blue Angels had five errors. New Rochelle held an 11-9 margin in hits.

Freshman
Gabryella Hay (Little River Academy, Texas) was the winning pitcher and the difference maker offensively, producing five RBIs and three runs in a 3-for-4 effort. She had an RBI single in the first, belted a three-run homer in the fourth and a three-run single in the fifth to account for the bulk of the 11 runs.
Holmes was 2-for-4 with two runs and sophomore third baseman
Alexandra Czarkowsky (Cheshire, Conn.) was 4-for-4.
Gutierrez scored twice. Freshman catcher
Bailee Franco (Placentia, Calif.) had two RBIs.

In the loss, sophomore catcher
Arianna Scrimo (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) batted 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI and
Squeo scored twice with one RBI and her 100th hit.
Flores hit 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Sophomore left fielder
Kayla Clarke (East Rutherford, NJ/Becton Regional) scored twice.

Amber Hunter (Piscataway, NJ/Arts (Newark)) made her first career appearance, starting for NJCU, but suffered the loss.
Hay struck out six against four walks to win.
