JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | The winningest season in the history of the
New Jersey City University baseball program has officially come to an end with the cancellation of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Tournament.
Â
NJCU improved to 21-18 in its last action on Senior Day on May 5—two more wins than any season in school history—and was postseason eligible for the second year in a row after going 18-18 in 2017. NJCU was in position to qualify for the ECAC Tournament for the first time since 2005 and the first tournament since the event had become deregionalized.
Â
However, the ECAC announced on Friday that after a late effort to save the championship, due to a lack of teams qualifying for the tournament that had not exhausted its maximum number of games or eligible weeks of competition, the 2018 edition of the tournament is cancelled for the second consecutive season.
Â
Prior to 2017, the championship had been held every season since 1981 with the last full cancellation coming in 1980.
